Default spun a connecting rod bearing..

well, the b17 didn't enjoy 8-10 psi with 112K on the motor..

and i spun a bearing on the number 2 connecting rod..

most of it was in the oil pickup.. how much should i worry about flushing the system? also, the turbo feeds from the oil pressure sensor on the back of the block.. anyone know if that's pre- or post-filtered oil?

since i don't have enough money to build the block now, here's the idea:
pull the crank and rods, have them machined to accept the next size up bearings..
put it back together with new rings, and then stop holding 8400 rpms to keep up with the big boys ;(

i've got a top end, and i'm going to build the bottom end, but i don't have time/money/place to do it now, so this solution will only be for this year...

That sucks man... I've revved (accidentally) to 8k a few times on my d16z6 and she's held together. sad to hear, but go for it. Clean well, especially the oil pickup.

the turbo feed is a pre filtered oil so its not filtered. if you need filter try using a ls/vtec oil adapter things b/t filter and block. did you break a con rod when you spun?

All the oil in the engine is filtered at some piont, theres not going to be a spot that you can tap that isn't going to be filtered.

if i were u and was short on money id just buy an ls shortblock and put her back together with the 1.8 bottom. if u take it apart and start having parts machined youll probably run into more trouble down the road. if it were me and i didnt run a lot of boost id just stick with another factory shortblock

the connecting rod didn't break.. and the oil pickup had trapped a lot of the bearing's remains.. what is a little worrying is that any of the small stuff that left the pickup could have gone unfiltered to the turbo feed line.. as soon as the bearing spun, and i heard the noise coming from the motor, i pulled over and shut off the engine.. so it probably has less than 30 minutes total, running like that.. i definitely didn't boost like that..

i think an ls shortblock would be more work than it'd be worth.. it would be advantageous in that i could build the new motor outside of the car.. but i don't think it's worth the hassle..

if i just machine the crank/rods, replace the piston rings, i should be able to get it back on the road asap.. and just be a little more conservative until i build the motor..

Default Update

Ok, the motor is completely torn down now..

The block is bare, the crankshaft is in my basement, half of the number two connecting rod bearing was still 'intact', the other half was as far away as the vtec solenoid..

at this point getting machine work done to the crank/rods seems ridiculous, as the number 2 rod is probably a little pissed off about having been beaten around without the comfort of a bearing. the number 1,3,4 crank journals measure around 45.00 mm, but are nice and round, but the number 2 journal measures anywhere from 44.91 to 45.02..

i currently see two options, aside from finding a stock shortblock..

buy a b16 crank, eagle/crower rods, arias/JE pistons, and send the block to get benson sleeves; cost ~ $2000-$2500

or

buy a b16 crank, stock rods/pistons, lower compression with a thicker head gasket, run a lot less boost; cost ~ $500

suggestions anyone?

mobil 1 - fully synthetic - 10w30? i think..

at the moment, i'm thinking:
b16 crank, eagle rods, stock p61 pistons with new rings, stock block
