spun bearing question
im currently looking for a block to send to GE to get sleeved. i have found a complete d16y8 motor only for $200 locally, but it has a spun bearing. i dont know too much/anything about spun bearings, so is this block usable? im looking to resleeve it and run 15-25 psi, probably somewhere around 300-330hp after all is said and done. just let me know if this block is usable for what im looking to do...
thanks a lot

A spun rod bearting means most likeky that the crank is distroyed. When you spin a bearings the rod knocks on the crack (up and down) and normally distroys it past the point of getting resurfaced.
For a block you are sending to get sleeved all you care about is the block is OK, legal, and it has a good crank. You shouldnt care about the sleeves.
And $200 is WAAYYY too much. I sold my last d16z6 shortblock for $50 with a good crank and block. I bought a working d16y7 longblock for $200 with a tranny (good tranny too). So look around.
I have a d16y7 block...one of the pistons is bad and scared the sidewall, but the crank is good. It would be a perfect block to get sleeved. Make me an offer. Its just taking up room in my garage.

the $200 was not what i was worried about. i was just wondering if a spun bearing did any damage to the block, such as the damage to the main bearing area of the block or anything. like i said, i barely know what a spun bearing is. if it can only be a rod bearing then ok, nevermind, im an idiot. i have a crank in my current engine that i can use anyways, so if the crank is totally not usable, i always have that one. i am really looking for a y8 engine, just to make things easier on me. thanks.

Spun main bearing or crank bearing? main bearing means u have to get the block line bored and then have oversize main bearing... not recommended for high horseppower apps.
the outside of a honda crank is hardened(about .030 deep). if you have it turned it becomes weaker. never turn a honda crank, always get another one.
