Spoon Thermostat and FI
Any of you guys running a Spoon Thermostat especially during this last winter?
I hate the ******* thing. I just got my car tuned with Hondata and the little bitch keeps the car running so cold on the highway, it's below regular operating temperature and I can not even get into Vtec then. I was wondering if any of you have the same problem.
I've also heard that I can't just swap out to a regular thermostat right now without retuning because it will cause it to run too lean.
Ain't that some ****?

I also run a codler thermostat. not Spoon/mugen. but same thing. 160* open instead of stock 183* I think it was? and I used it all winter. I have my stock fan and a 10" fan on most of the time too. No problems here... Maybe your' thermostat is sticking open? It shouldn't cool it that much. it should close if the temps get that low.

well at least thats when my fan would kick in and my temps would start going back down. Could this be the reason that i blow headgaskets? If my thermo isn't opening until 205*?

Yeah that's what I was told. If you're never seeing 180 degrees coolant temperatures the stock ecu is using the warmup map until that temp is reached. I'm also not sure but that would mean Vtec can not be engaged either.
Do you see any downsides to switching to the stock thermostat without retuning?

the fan switch will always be higher than the thermostat... if i remember correctly.. because if teh fan comes on before the thermostat opens, its kinda pointless for the fan to be on

on my car (99si) it has its own fan switch, located right next to the thermostat..
mine went bad, so i just swapped the switch and the thermo at the same time
