Default Spearco Intercooler Too Small?

I have a Spearco IC. Core is 18"x6"x3" Bar and plate Small intercooler. Does anyone know what power these are good for before it becomes unefficent? My next setup is gonig to be atleast 350-400WHP. maybe more. Would this be too small??

That thing looks like it would be way to small for anything over 10hp , haha

10hp?

thats like wayyyy heat soak already ...

i was thinking more like 5hp and its border line efficent / heat soak...

Hell..

I think he is better running a pipe right across the front where the FMIC would be, probally have the same cooling characteristics then that FMIC.

It is little bit to small for over 300hp... but it depends on the thicknesss allso...check out a stock Supra MK4 IC it isn't so big but works quite good with BPU that is 450hp.

Except my core is only 18" the 350HP one is 26" from Precision. but I was looknig around and there are some name brand companies taht rate their intercoolers even higher then 350hp yet are only 20"x6"3"

My specs are:

Core:
18"L
3"W
6"H

do you have a problem with the intercooler you have now? if not then don't worry about it.

Im running an cheap ebay fmic with about the same size and making 400 whp and the temps are still decent.

as long as you don't detonate and your temps are stable you should be good to go.

A bigger fmic would be better but that is up to you........98ctr

what is your intake charge temps? I don't really have a way to check my intake charge temps via ecu or probe. It seems fine but 4th and 5th gear do seem to lag a bit compared to 1/2/3. but that could jsut be because opf the logner gears... I need a ride in another turbo honda to see how it feels heh.

So let me get this straight? the efficiency of the unit is directly attributed to the size of the unit? Sound familiar?

No ours look the same size about. jsut our end tanks are differnet. yours onyl has that angled spot at the top. then it gpoes straight down doesn't it? Mines has angles on both sides kinda thing. hard to explain hehe. but if you compare pics. our cores goto the same spot. roughyl under the middle of the fog.

Yeah I see what your saying... I actually painted my couplers and clamps black so it blends in, that's why you can't see the outlets.

I have constant air temps in the intake mani, about 28 to 32 deg celsius so about 82.4 to 89.6 deg farenhight during the summer months. it drops down to about 10-15 deg C in the winter months. 98ctr

DSM guys make 300whp with 16g turbos (small compared to the T3/T4s I see on most Hondas) and sidemount intercoolers that are 3 times smaller than that. Bigger would probably be better, but I don't think that IC is going to hurt you as much as some would lead you to believe.

small doesn't mean it isn't good. they rate that one at 760hp, flows 1080cfm. 3.5"Dx18.48"Wx6"H
