Default spark plug gap?

hey all, noob to H-T....a quick question, i am running ngk-r 1 step colder plugs in my turbo b16, what should i have the gap at??? currently at .040, stock calls for .043, but should they be gapped smaller? my set up is in my signature if you were wondering, i'm having issues with wayyyy to rich right now, i pulled my plugs because my car was running funny after only 150 miles of being boosted, the plugs were so covered with carbon, they werent firing anymore, AFTER 150 MILES!!! needless to say i need a wide band, but dont have one yet, do you think plug gap could be playing a roll in this??

it depends some cars run good at .22 and some at .30, you have to try it out.
