I know this has been covered! I searched but 900+ topics is a little too much for me to skim through. I was looking at the greddy full auto or the ApexI auto timer. Which one is best to work with?

none.. waiste of money.. never had a problem with my turbo.. i don't wait forever to turn the car off either.. i drive it pretty much like n/a car..

I'm already having problems with the turbo leaking internaly and I'd rather not have it prematurely fail on me. Anyone else have any ideas?

turbo timer isn't going to save the life of your turbo, it wont save you on gas either.. any timer will do the job.. including yourself sitting in the car.

maybe your oil was too thin/old, maybe you didn't install drain/feed line or improper size, or maybe its defective or too old of turbo. any patch products don't fix the problem, you have to look at the source and fix it.

thats the type of turbo timer i use havent had problems yet!!

i had a buddy with a built FD3S backed into a parking spot against a wall, turbo timer kept the car on and never shut off, bumper lit fire and whole car went bye bye

yeah i dunno, i had some customers do the same, but there turbo's never lasted a year...

Is it nessesary to run a turbo timer if you run a coolant line to the turbo?

yes. or just let the car cool for a min before you turn it off, thats what i do and whenever im getting close to my destination i just stay off boost.

yeah just dont drive like a ignorant jackass then shut it off a seconds after your spirited drive, alot of oem turbos are water cooled, which pretty much did away with the "coking" of oil.

There both pretty easy to use. Greddy is probably easier but Apexi has more functions. Make sure you get authentic Apexi as the fake one sucks at all the other features. The Apexi has a a/f display which made a nice clean display for my friends WB.

Contrary to what others think, timers are great investments. If you are just cursing for a bit and come to a stop then you can just turn the car off with no ill effects. If you are giving the car a good work out and need to stop for a second it's nice to not have to worry sitting in the car for a min to let the car cool down. The purpose of the timer is to prevent oil from sitting in the turbo while it's at it's max temp. If you let the turbo cool down for a few seconds (they are oil cooled as well as lubricated) then you oil will tank you later. Watter cooled turbos don't require a timer really, thats why OEM cars don't have timers built in as ALL OEM turbos are water cooled.

Having said that, I just use the one on my alarm

Well neither do alot of aircooled OEM turbocars. Its not really the oil that will thank you, but turbo bearings, oil coked up in there destroys them pretty well.

I've never used a turbo timer on any of my setups. I simply dont care to pay $150 for something that just keeps my car running for 15 seconds. I have just learned not to drive like an *** before abruptly shutting my car off. If you sit for 10-15 seconds, your turbo will have spooled down enough to shut it off safely.

IMO you're not gaining anything by buying a turbo timer...

lol, thats how my greddy timer took a ****.. luckily i was still in the car after it was supposed to shut off, and it never did.. turned the timer off, still ran, then my TT started getting real hot and smoking.. Good job TT

You can't go wrong with either Greddy or Apexi unit from my experience. The apexi is a lot smaller and you have more mounting options.
