someone please help me decide on boost controllers
hi there,
goin turbo soon. I'm looking at elect. boost controllers. There is a great group buy goin on and i need to know the differences between these. Is dual solenoid always better?
Apexi AVC-R now onsale for 399.00 shipped--thats a great price. Can't tell if that is a dual or not from their website. I hear this is a good one though.
NEW SBC I-D...$516 from Blitz. THis is the cool dual solenoid with a separate HUD display. I hear this is nice too.
People, please give suggestions, advice, experience. Feel free to comment on choices for turbo timers as well.
thanks

hey whats up i'm in the same dilema..if you read this months super street they have a whole section on boost controllers..the AVC-R is a single soleniod. while the sbc i-d is a dual... also with the sbc i-d you don't need a boost gauge..it is one..so you will save some money on that..my friend has the avc-r he said it was hard to tune. with the sbc i-d i think there is a automatic function..don't really know much about it.. i'm leaning towards the sbc i-d. it looks cool too.let me knwo what you get.
Ok, sorry about my last post. One of my friends has the AVC-R in his car. Some of the things I don't like about it is the fact that it is only a single solenoid, it only displays boost in BAR(not PSI, I like PSI
) When I first started looking at boost controllers I wanted the AVC-R because I already have a VAFC, so I wanted something to match. I have been doing a lot of research lately, and I am starting to like the SBC-iD. the SBC-iD does display boost, but I would still feel better having a easily visible boost gauge on my pillar. The Blitz has a high boost warning in which if your boost starts to creep about your high level, the entire face on it lights up bright red and it starts making this annoying *** screeching noise. YOU WILL NOTICE IT!! On the Blitz you can program 4 preset boost levels instead of only 2 with the AVC-R, Blitz has a gear dependant boost control. I can't remember all of the specific functions, but I really REALLY like the Blitz controller. It is very esy to program. I think that with a little reading of the manual, anybody could properly configure it. I hope that this helps you out.

where are you getting the blitz? I was deciding on those 2 also.
so I dont really need a separate boost gauge w/ the blitz boost controller right?
I know..I am so cheap

I was between the AVC-R and GReddy Profec A, but had alot of reccomendation by way of the AVC-R over the GReddy unit, much more intricate and capable of more control than a "picky" Profec which can be frustrating, but beneficial once one takes the time to learn it all. Never did look into the Blitz unit though. How about the HKS EVC IV?
do you think the hks will be better? why? isn't the apexi only single solenoid? i thought the dual solenoids were always smoother control? is that not always true?

Did you every consider a Manual boost controller? There are pros and cons of both, but the manual is less expensive and it has no electronic parts. Turbonetics even makes one you can adjust from the engine compartment, and it is only $50! You can get all your gauges and a boost controller for the price of an electronic one. I am sure you will be happy with whatever you choose, but why not save a little cash in the process.

I would just like to say, don't get the Apexi AVC-R. It has way to much stuff on it that you will never use it all. Great piece but get something that you will use.
in a way thats the same with the blitz sbc-id, if you dont know how to reeally use it, your not gunna be able to maximize its full potential.
The blitz doesn't take a genious to figure out how to work all of it's features, in fact it was the first EBC I ever used and I figured out everything within the first hour. Get the SBCid, it's currently the best on the market...just ask any supra owner in Oregon i swear they all have em.
How about the Greddy Profec B??? Easy to tune????? How are the functions?? Does it display boost in psi??????? etc thanks for the help.
Profec B does not have a display for boost so u need a boost gauge to see boost. The Profec B is very easy to tune it can be switch from high boost to low boost very easily.
the thing I don't like about the profec-B is that it is all analog...no digital display, just external dials that you turn to change boost levels....An illumi-drive display is much more appealing to me... I like complicated things, so the more cool features it has, the better... hence my reason for going with the SBC i-D
Profec B by Greddy is one of the best BC you can get, for the price. Its easy to use and even used on the circuit by the likes of Ari Yallon who runs a 9-10 sec RX-7. I would put more emphasis on a stand alone for engine management or you can learn the hard way with a rebuild.
I don't doubt that the profec-B is one of the best....It just doesn't have enough cool features. Sure it is cheaper, but for the difference of $100, I would rather get one of the more complicated ones with more flexibility.
I'm the same guy that doesn't buy the $120 VCR because it's cheap and works well and reliable. I go out and get the $500 sony one...even though the $120 one could have been fine. I can't live without like 50 cool features in every electronic device.

ive been stuck on decidin whut boost controller to get too. i think ill just get a manual one. you pay too damn much for an electronic one.
