some kind of knock...what is it
ok, heres the deal, finished rebuilding and putting motor in saturday morning at 800am, a little hard starting but got it started and have about 80 miles, runs strong, pulls hard...but
the big issue is, all valves adjusted 4 times to correct clearance, compression tested #1-175, #2-150, #3-175, #4-175 (tested after 70 miles), it sounds like there is some sort of knock in the motor, i am pretty sure its not the valves ticking and when i get close to the pan i can hear it more than when standing over my motor. do you think it could be a rod bearing? i kind of thought that it may be #2 because the compression is a little lower. well let me knwo and thanks in advance.

not really a rattle, more of a knock and also, when it comes to idle it will do it and if it sits and idles for a minute or so, it will go away then come back and so on

yeah i know what you mean i had the srp 9:1 pistons and its like a rattle knock or whatever, its normal. yeah it goes away and comes especially when its just idling sitting there.

but it didnt seem to do it when i had them in my last block, could it be just a tighter clearance on my new one?

no, its nothing like that, mine has a knock a lot slower, its not real fast, at idle (800rpms or so) it sounds like it knocks everytime the cam makes on full rotation (just giving an idea about the speed of the knock). and it sounds more like you are knocking on a wooden door than a ticking.
