Default SOHC worth it??

Thinkin about putting turbo on my SOHC, with a new head gasket, valve springs, clutch....and anyother BS I need. I wanna know if you think its worth it?? Could it be a 12 second car with some work, or am I just wasting my time and $$$!!! Willing to put in bout $6000 or so, let me know what you think!!! And any suggestions on what turbos and or parts to use would be appreciated

Yes. There is another sohc guy on here that just hit 12's.

I run boost on my D16Z6 and I love it.

Here is a pic of my previous setup

I don't have a new picture but now I'm running Hondata 2bd, RC 440's, a 35MM Tial, and a TurboXS Dual Stage MBC.

yes it is worth it but not to build the sohc. some of us including me are rebuilding but using ls rod+ stock pistons. this set up should be good for 250hp.

SOHC motors are 100% worth it. $6,000? Oh yes.

Honestly guys, b16a's and B18a's are dirt cheap right now, why NOT go DOHC? I mean, you have a stronger more powerful motor AND have a backup longblock.

It's cool to represent the sohc, but it's also easier to start from the better base.

With a B16A costing 2,350 and a B18C at 3,000.....plus a lot of extra dough just to finish the swap, with drive shafts, motor mounts....blah, blah, blah.....

and then only have 170 or 190 hp engine

When just spending the cost of the engine alone gets you a turbo kit that could put out about 200 hp and torque that comes on harder than any NA car!

it all depends on what you want to do, for $6000 you can make a good SOHC..

if you do it right you can make good power out of them.

"dont underestimate the power of the single cam"

Send your head to Port Flow for rebuilding.....

Rebuild the shortblock with forged rods, 9:1 pistons (from JE or SRP)

Get a new camshaft & timing gear

Get a turbo kit to boost to 15psi

get a good ECU/tuning computer

That should make for one fast SOHC

Also, you can just put on a 7psi turbo kit, and upgrade things like better suspension, big brake kits, sway bar. A 7 psi turbo doesn't sound like it would be too much compared to a 15 psi kit, but at 7 psi, the car is a whole different animal! Just hang on when you punch it, since the torque steer gets a lot worse with all that added power.

I definatly agree with that. I'm getting all my stuff ready for a rebuild.

Here's what I got so far:
JE 9:1 Pistons
Drag Gen 3 Kit
Hondata 2bd

Here is what I still need:
Eagle Rods
JG Iron Ductile Sleeves
Zex Camshaft
Cometic Headgasket
Rebuild the head

Can't wait till it's all done!!!!!!!!

STICK WITH THE SOHC!!!!
i will easily make over 300whp with all the new add ons i have got!!!
when the motor was almost stock with just rods& pistons i made 248whp.@15psi
i have just added a fully built ferrea head, and a full alpha custom sheetmetal intake manifold, since the D series intakes suck so bad...also a full 3" exhaust. and i am going to tune for 18-20psi this time!!!

other than the frail rods, what else is really weak and [prone to failure on the "stock" d16z6 motor and at what boost level will you start to encounter peoblems?
