-SOHC turbo help needed-
ok i have a z6 motor that i put a peiced together kit on. i put everything on and there is a whole bunch of smoke coming out of the downpipe when the car runs. when i turn it off there is no more smoke but there is oil dripping out of the pipe(small stream). what could the problem be. i have a t25 with hf manifold......TIA

no i mean it is actually coming out of the downpipe like inside it.... ive been told the seals in the turbo are bad, it also leaks a little oil out the other inlet where u hook the intercooler piping up to
Sounds like your turbo isn't draining well. You need a *REALLY* good drain line. Plenty big, with a straight (steep) downhill shot into the pan. You also may be over-oiling the turbo. I'd look at the drain line first though.
well the retun line is 3/4 inch but isnt on the best slop to the oil pan...the feed line is kinda big on the outside but the inside diameter looks to be only 1/8"...ill go make the return line on a downhill slope and see what happens
I'd try that first. If the drain line is less than 45 degrees, it can cause problems. Another thing that can cause trouble is where you tap the oil pan. This would be bad luck but, if it lines up with a counterweight on the crank shaft, the crank could actually be "slinging" oil back up the line. That's why some people put little hoods on the inside of the oil pan where the tap is.
Also, is the turbo brand new or used? Shaft play? It's possible the bearing is bad and it needs a rebuild. BTW, I've got a T25 from a 97 GSX. For some reason, mine didn't like a very big oil feed. No matter what I did to the drain line (you ought to see how big it is!) it would smoke badly. So, I narrowed the opening of the oil feed down to about 2mm, and it's been great ever since (installed a year ago, inlet fixed 9 months ago, daily driven, in TX...).

well i ran the return line on a nice slop to the pan...and it seems to have fixed the problem....there is hardly any oil coming out of the downpipe and the oil that is coming out i think is because of all the oil that was flooding the turbo when i had the return line ran incorrectly. i took it for a little ride and it smokes pretty bad....i was told by someone that it will smoke for a day or 2 cause of the oil that has been sitting in the turbo.
check if your nuts on the compressor/turbine housings are tight also, my friend's turbo smoked when we realize that we didn't tighten up the nuts when we rotated the housing.
