i recently bought a ramhorn for my SOHC
it didnt come with a wastegate flange welded onto it.

this is the manifold i have:



so i bought a flange from BMC race and planned to just have it welded on the end.

i did some test fitting and found that it wouldnt fit how it is built. as it is not the wastegate is blocked by the upper radiator support (i can get pics if you need), and i dont want to/shouldnt have to cut anything.

i was wondering if anyone has a picture of a sohc ramhorn,
id like to get a better idea of where to have a new wastegate welded up.

should i have it come off the collector with a 90* elbow?
which way should it turn (my compressor inlet will face the driver side)

** pictures will help A TON, as i will have to bring it to th shop that will be welding it up for me. **

which wastegate do you plan on using. if you use the the v-band type i would get it welded where it now, but your going to run the 2 bolt 38mm i would get the flange welded with the bolt holes vertical the have the D.P do a 90 then under the pan

Did you find someone else to weld it for ya?

A picture of your engine bay would help with deciding how to mount it.

ill be using a 38mm tial

i still havent actually talked to anyone,
i was thinkin for the price of shipping to and from CO, it would be cheaper to have it done locally.
now that that isnt the case, im not sure.

a pic would help us decide. You would probably be safe doing a 90* bend down and mounting the wastegate that way, but a pic would be nice.

here is a pic of the problem im having:

when i get it to clear the upper radiator support, the flange doesnt line up with the wastgate that is currently there (no flange)



when i line the wastegate up it doesnt clear the radiator support



this is somewhere in the middle



the radiator support it is hitting (dont mind the exhaust soot, i had alittle exhaust leak )

I think a 45* bend would clear just fine.

Yep. Just put a little angle down from the manifold. It will clear the support just fine.

Hrmm, can you take a pic farther out just so I can see what is on the drivers side?

It does kinda look like it might be fine if we just cut the tube shorter.

i had to trim the pipe down a tad on mine, and notch that supprt from the bottom with my die grinder, same wastegate, and a very similar manifold

i think it we shorten it, it would have to be REALLY short. probaly have to shorten the 'stub' by ~ 75% to get it to fit. almost down to where the color from the pervious weld stops..

i dont mind waiting to get it welded up right.

i just dont like the idea of having to cut anything, especially when im gonna have to have a flange welded anyway. might as well weld a wastegate elbow on it and not have to worry about it.

Whatever you want to do man, I will do it for ya. I'd reccomend mounting it like you have here. I can cut that peice of pipe for ya even.

i would angle cut the pipe so that the wastegate points slightly down as opposed to straight out.

hell you dont even need to cut it, just grind it down a bit at an angle and just leave more on the upper portion
