Default SOHC head dilema

Im currently thinking of switching heads on my built y8.

I have the non-vtec z6 head,a JDM d15b head (20 cam lobes) lying around or retain the y8.

I am planning to get a turbo cam and valve train for it soon. so i need to decide on what head to put on.

Pros and cons please:

Find a Z6 head. That's what I want to put on my Y8.

Then less worry about ignition timing... just worry about y8 oiling

I'm also for the z6 head. which is basically what that d15b head is.. assuming its the jdm vtec head... and not d15b2 or something

Z6 head for my vote, just because i have one and the **** won't die . Pulls hard with the zex cam, and no problems. Apparently the Z6 head also flows better due to the post design, but the Y8 gives you compression. If I were you though since you already have the Y8 just go with that. The gains of switching the head will be minimal if boosting and with a good cam.

a lot of peopel hears a couple complaining abotu spinning a bearing and now every Y8 is bad oiling. no one ever questioned the guys driving the car. did they voer rev the car, did they runt he oil too low, etc.
I ran a Y8 for 3 years with a greddy kit running 220+ the whole time. I had NO oiling issues at all.

peopel pelase unless YOU yourself have first hand expirence, then lets get off the Y8 is crappy oiling band wagon, it's jsut plain dumb. there's NO proof of any of this and the posts peopl have shows do not adress the questions I just mentioned which mind you WILL also cause problems.

All numbers taken from fuzzy memory of service manuals.

at different RPM, so it's not even comparable

I wouldn't bother swapping heads, just remember the Y8 head likes different ignition timing. Tune your **** and be happy, or don't tune your **** and be unhappy. The end.

Y8 oil pumps suck... compared to all other Honduh oil pumps. Some of you guys have good luck, but talk to any dealer tech who sees them die frequently and they'll set you straight. Just like Honduh main relays die all the time... yet my beater will hit 300K miles on the trip to NJ this weekend and it's still got the original never soldered on main relay. Yet, they suck, too.

Yeah I saw those numbers as well and they were rated at different rpms which makes them basically useless for comparison. I want to see a side by side observation of the acutal pumps and what characterstics are different about them. I've never actaully seen a write up like that, that I can remember anyways. Or a flow chart would be useful, but I doubt we'll ever see that.

You could chuck a pump up on a lathe and plot by how quick it fills up a bucket at different rpms. Mike Belben is just the sort of hardcore D-series loving ************ with access to said equipment to ask about doing so.

Rocket science, y0!

if your going to run a stock ported head, yes the z6 is better. If you going to get a massive port job then it really does not matter.

i dont have any y8 oiling problems either.
