Default SOHC guys. Do you run an adjustable cam gear?

If so, what do you have it set to and did you notice a power increase? Thanks.

from what i know, using a cam gear on a sohc will only allow you to shift the whole powerband up or down. unlike a dohc, we cannot independently alter the intake and exhaust side while tuning. personally i think there aren't significant gains to be made with an adjustable cam gear on a sohc, only possibly to better suit the powerband for your driving style. perhaps someone has different experience tho.

Pengo pretty much said it. You can basically only move your power band around. I might actually just sell mine and put the stock one back one since I don't really use it, I was going to use it when n/a.

Being able to shift the powerband up and down is a HUGE advantage for someone into drag racing. Especially if the adjustments are being made for a car that was designed for low-mid range power such as the SOHC D16's are. Retarding the cam gear timing will allow a SOHC to adjust the power band for higher revs. The only advantage a DOHC gets out of cam gears over a SOHC is the ability to adjust overlap. Just make sure the cam you choose to use with your SOHC has the right amount of overlap in it to begin with for your application.

I use the AEM cam gear and tried to tune it at the track but didn't get consistent result so it will have to wait until dyno time in a couple of months.

i got an aem on my z6.. it's at +2 right now.. like everyone said.. just switches powerband around.. at +2 i felt a difference when it was n/a.. torquier... pulled harder.. when i had this stupid *** chip in my car that made my car run like ***.. i was doing freaking a gay *** 16.0.. then i retarded it -4 and it went down to a 15.7.. but now that that chip is gone, it pulled a 15.23 2000 ft elevation all motor.. so you know..

yea thats what i meant by tuning for personal driving preferences or applications. i guess what i should have clarified is that it isnt gonna play a huge part in making power if you're speaking dyno-wise. sorry for the misunderstanding.

personaly i think the money could be better saved and spent elsewhere for the sohc. but then again i haven't spent much time at the track or the dyno playing around with adjustable cam gears on my sohc. i sold mine and kept the stocker

you could dyno tune it for a couple hp but I say just spend your $$ raising boost

That's what I figured because your times were so close to mine.
