Default SOHC Greddy kit does NOT fit civic B18B1

I have been reading up on getting a turbo kit for my 93 civic HB with a b18b1 motor.. Lots of poeple on the board told me to get the Greddy SOHC kit and then just modify the manifold to make it all fit.

So I went out last week and got the complete kit and then I tryed to install it.
Well it took 3 hours to port match the manifold since it was way off and also the bold pattern is not even close..

We finally got the manifold to fit.. then when I tryed to mount the turbo on the manifold... the turbo hits my fan aswell as my motor block!

After a really frustrating day I dont know what to do anymore.

Any suggestions!

thanks
Tyler

you sure your turbo on the right way ?? compressor side inlet facing the transmission? it hits my fan ( most fans will need to be shaved when turbocharged) but it deosnt hit my block .. your kits or installations got some issue's buddy

how come you didnt get the B-Series seeing that you have an B18B....I dont think the SOHC is any good except for the charge pipes...

Something is wrong. The SOHC comes with a smaller turbo, 15G, than the DOHC, 18G, version, so you would not even be able to put on a DOHC version on your car. Are you sure you have a SOHC greddy kit, not trying to insult, just checking. Also does the B18 place the motor a little different than a regular motor in a HB, not that familiar with Hybrids.

ya am sure its on the right way. I just looked ay a bunch of pics and now I can see why it fits the block,, if you look at all the Greddy B series manifolds... the flange for the turbo is no perfectly straight . it actually slanted so it doesent hit the block! but on the SOHC manifold its perfectly horizontal to the ports..

are you sure you have the same kit I have?

can you please send me some pics so i can see your set up!
thanks

Puting a turbo on is not the funnest thing to do, especially if you dont even have the right kit. Dont get so frustrated so easily. It takes time and money to go faster.

I think you should spend the money on a turbo kit that is designed for your motor.

I put the greddy d series kit on a b18a1 in an 89 hatch and never had near the problems your describing. it did have to remove the a/c condensor fan, but block clearance was fine, however, i did have to modify the intake pipe slightly.

do you have a pic of this? you said you used the SOHC manifold right?

did you port match the exhaust ports and did you slotted all the holes also?

no because people buy the kits for their specific motor

Seriously, kit makers size their turbo's pretty well. I think if ure gonna spend the money and go through all this just start off with the right set-up.

well first off there is a BIG difference in price and since my B18 is not built yet I did not want to start with a big turbo.. so the kit I got was good and complete with a trust intercooler

I figure ill use the small 15g turbo for now...
then when I build my motor ill get a bigger turbo but i wont have the change all the piping, ect..

I just wanna take it one small step at a time...
plus with the small turbo I wont have any lag.. I like street better then drag so it should be fun

ok so
your gonna spend 2400 for the kit
400 for the manifold
another 500 for a new turbo
and 200$ for misc modifications your probably gonna need.

when you could have just bought a drag kit for 3000?
how does this make sense?

just so you know, small turbo dosent always mean quickest spool time.

I think you should spend the money on a turbo kit that is designed for your motor.
You should have done some more research. Sucks now...but man...your friends are idiots.

hey i actually have ur same set up on my car.. i got a B18A1.. for the manifold what u need to do is put the exhaust gasket on the manifold and drill holes so it can fit your head.. just use the gasket as a guide where to drill.. everything fit on my engine ok and i have a smaller engine bay i think.. the only thing that gets in the way is the fan.. i suggest get a FAL or just cut the **** outta ur factory one.. that's what it did hahaha

I did that to the manifold and I even port matched the exhaust ports to it flows better with the B series head!

bot I tryed to put the turbo on the manifold and then it would hit the block of the motor????

and for your info .I payed 1300$ for the complete kit,, sorry it was a deal I could not refuse!

keep at it man.. I know this setup works and well for that matter those other foos just dont know "you should just get a kit that was ment for ur motor" bullshit.. then why do u have a motor that wanst ment for ur car.. for that matter we all do.. ur choice of turbo was a good choice.. most turbo applications were disigned for drag and not street.. ecspecially the t3/t4 yes it makes good top end but it LAGS the 15g makes full boost at 2300k thats crazy torqou!!
