so i installed a greddy 96-99 gsr kit on a 2000 gsr
and the downpipe is 5 inches too short and about 2" skewed....
muffler shop says thats too short to bend a pipe to get them to mate up...
might be able to rig it but its not lookin good. any ideas?
worst case scenario i just go 2.5" with 2.5" cat all the way back. but i CANT afford this now.

Can you cut the downpipe closer to the turbo end and have a pipe bent and welded on from there that will match up ?

then theres that exhaust bracket that i want to keep. i guess i can have them lop it off the greddy part of the downpipe that they will cut.

Thats bullshit. I had a 2001 GSR with the greddy kit. All that had to be donw was cut off the flange from the downpipe add like 4-5 inches of pipe then reweld the flange back on it bolts up perfectly. I did it myself in like 30 minutes and it fit and looked perfect. I have pics of the downpipe if you wanna see them

dustin suggested loosening the downpipe and seeing if i could get it to line up better - i havent tried this and it might work....
i wish i knew how to weld, and had access to a welder

that looks great! unfortunately i have a engine mount bracket about 1/4" behind the flange so no room for flex pipe mounting
plus i need an o2 sensor bung welded in so i'll just take it to the muffler shop tomorrow.

Whats so hard with cutting off the flange adding like 4-5 inches of pipe and then welding the flange in the right direction back on? It only takes like 30 minutes. Send me your damn downpipe and I will do it for you free of charge.

2nd, njedb added another pic- look at the amount of deflection in his flex pipe! i might have the same problem - going to try to align it better right now.
just lengthening the pipe might not be the answer with that amount of deflection.
flex pipe is not the answer. cause i need an o2 bung welded on so i gotta take it to a shop anyway.
i have a lot of wrong answers and no right one. i am just planning on going to the muffler shop tomorrow and having the pipe lengthed and adjusted to mate to the cat and having the o2 sensor welded in.

humm here are some options.
1) screw the cat, extend the downpipe to the exhaust.
2) cut off like 4" of the existing downpipe and have a new pipe that is long enough to bend welded on.
3) just install an autozone flex pipe and have ur 02 bung welded earlier on the downpipe and extent the wires to the 02 sensor.
hummmmmmmm or just go 2 1/2 inch downpipe i know u want too.

Been there...done that.
I did the install with my brother for his '00 GSR. The downpipe needs to be extended and the flange that connects to the cat needs to be turned some inorder for it to mate up for the bolts. Lets just say it took like 3 trips to the muffler shop with the car at home to get it right.

ok took it to AAA muffler bunch of good ole boys never worked on a FWD car before told me the goddamn downpipe wouldnt mate to the cat (bullshit!!!!! bullshit!!) told me to go get the stock header and they would cut the end off of it and weld it and NOT weld the bracket that holds the downpipe to the engine (thats important!!!) bunch of crap...
left there and went to Pronto Muffler, put me in the 1st bay where the good guys work and cut the dp flange off, bolted it to the cat (1st shop WRONG) and welded in a new pipe and welded in the o2 and welded the damn bracket for less money!
so now my exhaust is fixed
so i boost onto the highway and blow out my RTV'd and ziptied BOV
hahaha.
