Default smoking on deccel...?

having a problem with a fresh motor..
motor only has about 500 miles on it.
new rings, etc

car doesnt smoke at all under load or any other time other then down shifting and letting the motor brake the car

noticed some oil on #3 plug. changed the valve seals on that cylinder and its still smoking.

compression is 190 all the way across. im thinking oil rings.. could it possibly be a guide even though i changed the seals?..

Turbo on or no?

Mine does it too, only on extremely heavy decel, doesn't do it any other time. Every Honda I have owned does this though, lol.

Do a leakdown? I don't know otherwise, it almost sounds like turbo seals but that wouldn't leave only one plug with oil on it.

**** dude, topmounts should be easy to pull off besides them weighing a million pounds.

Honestly, if your compression/leakdown tests were good and the car doesn't burn oil during acceleration, I would personally just put up with it. It's that big blue cloud behind you going down the track that sucks.

What intake manifold? PCV valve?

I had an issue with my car way back when. Put a GSR intake manifold on it (stock) and still had the straight through adaptor on the black box from the LS, not the PCV from the GSR. Fresh motor. Would run fine then sometimes smoke like crazy. lol The oil was filling up in the intake plenum and would slosh around and get down a runner and smoke. Huge relief when i found the problem, i thought something was wrong with the motor.

running a sheetmetal intake manifold..
nothing from the block running to the manifold. have one of the block holes running to a catch can. still have the black box, but its vented to the catch can also

thats really strange...i would have guessed valve seals since it smokes on decel but you said you replaced them so i have no clue...**** like that is really frustrating.

im wondering if it had bad guides with new seals if it would still smoke.. the old motor blew in that cylinder.. put new valves in it, but the guides could have gotten damaged from driving about 20 miles with 2 bent valves

Mine smokes a bit if letting it idle for a long time then rev it, but I know my valve guides are shot. I put brand new seals in mine as well but knew it woudlnt cut it. If the guide are shot, that seal is useless.

Id bet its your valve guides.

You may want to check your valve guide height. I had a problem with a car that did that. It has bent valves before and the machine shop (A VERY good one) installed the valve guides too high so when it hit vtec, it would rip them.

sounds like the exact problem i had 2 weeks ago (minus the oil on the plug)

took the turbonetics turbo off (brand new) and put a factory exhaust manifold on it..... all the smoke went away. turbos at turbonetics now for warranty repair. it was on one of those god awful turbonetics b series turbo kits with their supplied feed and return lines. (we didnt do the install but the return line was def. acceptable)

thats valve seals all the way, if the guides are bad it will just tear up the new seals, also it might be more than one cylinder, if thats all you replaced .When turbo seals go bad its usually under hard accelartion or if its really bad all the time.

changed the turbo..and sure as **** it stopped smoking.. weird how every simptom lead to the valve seals and they ended up being fine. checked the plugs after a hard deccel and no oil.. dont get it...whatever at least its not smoking anymore

i have just about the same problem. as soon as my car starts to decel, and for a min after it comes to idle after decel it smokes oil. my compression is 195-200 and leakdown even 10%.

as people said earlier, it could be the valve seals/guides pulling oil into the motor when its pulling lots of vacuum.

Can a lack of a catch can or PCV cause this?
