SMC guru's...i need your help
Im in the process of trying to tune my smc500 and im having a little trouble. First of all i can get it to hold idle but as soon as i hit the gas itll die. Ive tried setting it from 20% all the way to 59%. I just cant get it. What process did you guys use when tuning it? This is just kicking my ***. I need your help. Thanks

OK...heres the latest update. The ONLY way that i can get it to idle is if i set the idle to -20%. But that doesnt seem right because im running rc440's and -20% is just WAY too rich. Itll idle low at around 300-500rpms for a few minutes then the idle becomes erratic and jumps from 300-700 then it slowly bogs down and dies. Ive tried to take it out but i cant get it out of my driveway because it bogs and dies. Ive set it to 20% and went up and down 1 or 2% at a time to get it to do better but it just dies. Ive reset it all to 0 and even back to the stock honda map percentage and it still wont hold idle. Ive tried everything from 15%-59%. I just cant fgure it out. Could it have something to do with my dizzy timing? I really need your help asap. Thanks

-20% at idle is not that weird, a lot of people including me (when I used to run the hack) have had to run like -25% or richer because although the injectors flow twice as much at full duty cycle at lower levels they dont flow all that much more. After that I ran about -37 out from there. Try resetting your ecu, usually in vaccuum you just need to get it close and the ecus close loop function will fine tune its vaccuum maps to run like stock, you just may need to reset the ecu so it can start over. If that dont work map sure the map sensor wires to the smc or hooked up right.

are you making sure to tune the +0rpm and +500rpm increments? i've heard of people trying to just tune 1000, 2000, 3000, etc and forgetting about the 500rpm increments (you need to tune 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000, etc). i know this is obvious but you'd be surprised how many people forget this. and the reason i mention this is because if you tune 1000 and 2000 correctly but forget about 1500, then it will idle fine at 1000 but when you step on the gas it will hit the untuned 1500 mark and possibly lean out and die like you're describing.

-20% at idle maybe too rich. Set the idle, 1K, 1.5K around -30% to -35%. Make sure when your verifying the setting at -30% the LED flashes the following:
1 flash (Idle)...pause...flash 4 times (-30%)....pause....flash 1 time (0%)
Once you have the setting at -30% or -35%, turn off the engine.
Disconnect the ground cable from the battery for five minutes.
Reconnect the ground cable
Start the engine
Do not touch the gas pedal or turn on any accessories for five minutes. This will enable the ECU to adjust the short term fuel trim.
BTW as Keebler already pointd out, when you adjust the SMC500 make sure you change the 500rpm interval ranges as well. Many individuals forget to adjust the 1500, 2500, 3500...etc.
