Default Slick tire sizes

I need to hear about real world experiences from people that have tried 22x8x15 and 24.5x8x13 slicks. I have been using the 22" so far and have been able to muster a 12.21 @115.31 w/ a 1.9 60', but I am wondering if I went with the 24.5 if my et's would drop?? I would think that the 22's make me accelerate faster out of the hole, but I am wondering what you think will happen or what you have expereinced when you changed sizes. Thanks.

I'm wondering also...if I'm making 400whp, should I be fine with 22" or go straight to 24's....

go straight to the 24s you will be much happier. make sure you are putting out adequate pwr though to get you out of the hole after that it really just making sure you stay in good groove and you should beokay.

I run 22' tall tires and have gone 10.25 with a couple of 1.5's and a bunch of 1.6 60' times. This is done with a peg leg LS tranny and turbo GSR engine. Have not broken an axle or tranny yet. 22 tall seems to be easy on parts

GSRev- what kind of 1/8 times are with that 12.21? my friends gsr hatch, on 10 psi and 22x9x13 MH, put down 1.72 60'.

i agree. if your making anything over 310 to 320 to the wheels, go with the 24's. making 375 or more and go with 25's. 450 or more...go with 26's......just my experience/opinion.

they have different 22" tires? I thought that 22" is 22"...the width doesn't really make a difference with the height....

better width means more contact patch and better traction.

I use 9 1/2" wides and run as low as 6 lbs for the largest patch possible on 22" talls.

yeah, I know that more width equals a larger contact patch, but i didn't know that they had different heights for 22" slicks...

I've hit a best of 1.72 on 22x8x15 MT's. 1.8's are the norms and occasionaly mid to high 1.7's.

sparkz, what setup are you running??
Engine/poweraddy/tire psi

I've never been able to get 22x8x15 to hook, even at 11 psi.
My 20x8x14's hook ggod enough for 1.87 from a juiced SOHC.
I might goto 22x8x14 later in season.

its all about how you launch depening on rpm vs your track conditions. I launch on the 2step at different rpms depending on my traction. Each track you run at will give you different results. The best way to determine your maximum traction is practice at the track at a given time. Each time you make a pass jot it down on your log book and put exactly what tire combo + pressure etc and also make sure you jot down the temp. I have noticed in extreme heat compared to mild weather there is big difference in traction. Also after you do that trie a different combination with tire pressure and rpm launch. Each time you should get better and not worse.

To be consisten is the key. Cutting 1.5-1.4 60ft are not that difficult if you just practice and have good launches coming out of the hole. It all about how you get your power to the ground in the fastest possible manner.
