sleeved b16?
so ive come across a deal on a brand new sleeved b16.......my question for you all is can i make decent horse power and torque on a reasonable amount of boost......i just dont see many sleeved b16 block out there......and could i see some of your set ups? k thanx
If you want torque then mostly everyone will tell you to go B18 or B20, alternatively if its sleeved then bore it to something like 84mm.
I'm running a darton sleeved B16 but so far just running 6psi on conservative tune. Seems to putting decent power as I managed 150mph and it still kept pulling but not very impressed with my turbo as too laggy for me and gets full boost around 5KRPM.
Set your power goal and what type of drive you're after wether its daily drive, track, 1/4 mile, etc then you can determine what's the best setup for your application.

400!! @ the wheels or fly? What turbo is that? I'm not sure if I want to continue with the current 57trim 63 a/r I got right now!!!! Fancy something that would have full spool by 3000/3500 RPM instead of 5K...

I was initially aiming around 250-300whp but after having completely rebuilt my engine I found now that my setup is capable of 400-500whp. The problem is that there is no where to go fast, there's traffic about everywhere you go and even on the motorway drivers pull out on you without telling how fast you're coming.
So it might be more usable on the long run to have something that goes from 0-100km in 5 seconds or less rather than something that can achieve 300km/h ...

If you get a smoking deal on a sleeved B16 (like $4-500 total), it will be a great motor for 600whp+. Otherwise for a street car, a stock-sleeve B18 will be the way to go. If you really want sleeves, I'd suggest you save your money a little bit, then get a B18 sleeved to 83-84mm. 12.5% more displacement helps in every department, especially with a built cylinder head. You can run 84mm, but torque is made much easier with a larger stoke than with a larger bore.
BTW the only reason you should want to make your power at a "reasonable amount of boost" is if you're running pump gas, at which point you'd really want a larger motor. With a smaller motor you just toss more pressure at it until the turbo gets maxed out.
IMO using a 1.6L block with aftermarket sleeves is like choosing non-vtec over a dohc vtec head. Its not much more in the grand scheme of things, but will let you make much more power.
