Default Sleeve Tolerance

Hey I was just wondering what is the rule of thumb when it comes to leaving how many millimetres of sleeves when ur goin boost...If that didnt make sense ok.. I have a B18A block bored to 85mm with darton sleeves.. the guy before me busted a valve so i need to rebore the cylinders to 85.5mm. Max tolerance is 87mm. Is the 1.5mm of space enough for a boost application?

with 85.5mm there is not much material left between the cylinder bores to properly seal the headgasket. especially with boost.

if the engine was still N/A then it might be ok but for boost it will work for a bit but chances are you will have lots of headgasket sealing issues.

good luck

theres been poeople who've done it plenty of times. only thing i can see happening are headgasket issues, since its so thin in between the cylinder walls. In between the cylinder walls on the headgasket is going to be so thin so its hard to properly seal.

85.5 is pretty big. It's been done before... but what makes a difference is the type of sleeves used. Are they the 300 series or the MID's?

Get rid of that block then. 4.5mm over on a 300 series is asking for big trouble.

Those are not 300 series sleeves. Those look like 'press-in liners but maybe they were 300 series sleeves 4.5mm ago, lol. It also looks like a blockguard was used as well. It almost looks like that epoxy thing that someone tried doing on a D series years ago, lol.

Anyways, I wouldn't even think about doing a 85.5mm boosted set-up with that block. I'm sure someone is going to chime in though about how their neighbor's brother's best friend's cousin made 900whp with a set-up similar to that though.

Okay.. I did a ton of research on here on open and closed decks.. So my block is a closed deck with darton sleeves. Can anyone help me to say if a 85.5mm bore can handle boost with the max tolerance at 87mm.

Can I send in my block and get it rebored and resleeved to an open deck formatted block?

You would be better off just sleeving another block and selling that one off.All the b18a's come open deck from the factory.Like was already said it looks like a block guard and repair liners. There are good sleeves that have the correct thickness in both open deck and closed deck.
