Ok I know they are different companies but why does one sleeve a different design than the other? (up a couple post vs this one)

^^^ Because if every company copied off the next where would we be in life?

One is an open deck design and the other is a closed deck design. I like the open deck design I feel it cools the top of the sleeve better where the combustion is taking place, i'm sure some will disagree.

I understand what you are saying but in arguement to that why would you want to remove or have less support up top where all the combustion is also? I mean there is no doubt that Golden Eagle, Erl(darton), Benson, and AEBS are all good sleeves. I dont know how you could go wrong with any of them if the machine work is done correctly. The little differences you can see between manufacturers are just the little "tricks" they use to differentiate themselves from the competition. To the OP, which ever route you decide to go with, just make sure you are using a reputable machine shop and make sure you know exactly what is being machined. i.e. ERL's standard align hone.

I dont see how one has less support than the other, they are both braced around the top of the sleeve, one design just lets a good bit more coolant come in contact with the top of the sleeve. I agree with you they are all good designs IMO if they are braced at the top (Benson's is NOT braced) and it all falls down to installation.

Who know's, you cant see the full sleeve with the AEBS and Dart Blocks, if you have enough pressure going on to crack an aftermarket ductile iron sleeve you have some other issues going on lol

I like how GE does their installation, the top of the sleeve rests on a small machined lip in the coolant jacket, I dont see how a sleeve can drop past that point if its resting on it already.

I havent really got a chance to check down into the sleeves to see exactly what they look like down there. They are rated to 55lbs of boost. Im not sure that most will ever see that that much lol.

I switched from a Darton MID sleeved block, to a Golden Eagle sleeved block. I definitely like the design of the GE sleeves a little better, and during street driving, coolant temps are a bit lower with the GE sleeves. I am assuming this is just due to the design of the sleeve allowing the coolant to flow more freely around the sleeves... I reccomend GE.

It's not just the flow, but the extra surface area (as compared to the others) that is a + with GE sleeves and cooling temps. Same principal as cooling fins on a motorcycle engine, cpu's, IC's, radiators etc etc. The more surface area, the better.

Darton and GE seem to pay the most attention to cooling in their design, GE takes it a step further.
