Default skunk2/type r cams ?

yea i know this has been covered a few times before but im unable to find any info regarding the type of build im doing. i have seen graphs for high hp set ups like 600 and up but havent seen alot of info on something a lil more mild like 500
so heres my build
b18c1
9:1 compression
skunk2 valves and retainers
neukin mani and dp full 3' exhaust
my builder and i are wonderin if we would be better off with the type r or the skunk2 pro1
im sure u guys will need more info on my build to help me out. so ask and i will do my best to provide it.

pro 1's are supposed to make the power smoother without a vtec crossover, but ive read on here that they are much harder to tune and get the car to idle properly. i have type r cams now and am also intrested in switching to pro-1

I plan on making the same upgrade soon. I have gsr now and want something more aggressive. Its seems unless you can get the ITRS cheep, it may be better just to spend the cash on a used set of old stage ones (still more agressive than itrs and may be comparable in price)

well the goal is 450-500 on 93 without meth injec. we will just have to see how far we can go
right now im running b18c1 bone stock internals 170000 miles
neukin manin and 3' exhaust
garrett t3/t4 .48ar
with that we got 317hp/225tq at 10-11 psi

now the end result of this build will have an sc6152e at between 18-19 psi on 93 revin out to 9000k
and we are confident that this setup will be close to what we are lookin for im just having trouble deciding on which cams to run henich why im askin the gurus how they feel about these cams

just curious...but how are you going to know when you are at that magic point of going no further? when the piston or the rod comes flying out of the side of the block?

why is everyone so hell bent these days on running motors to the ragged edge?

no its not that we are tryin to run the motor on the ragged edge we are just set certain peramters for the build......and im very confident in my tunner.
he is thinking it will prob be closer to like 450-480 on pump gas but i have a good feeling about hitting the 500 mark.
come on guys....tony1 and redzone i would like to hear what u guys have to say since yall are the only ones i have seen postin up graphs on the matter

Skunk2 Pro Series 1 Camshafts are the way to go. Make a long story short, Robert @ Skunk2 and I @ Importsports Performance both agreed to try out the Pro Series 1 cams in my GT42r setup (GSR) in the SFWD Civic. Here @ 5200 ft elevation, we were desperate to get more power for we DO NOT have any oxygen up here. I was capped out making 815whp on our dynojet dyno with the 2001 integra type-r cams, both intake and exhaust. At 41psi, that was the most boost I could achieve here at this altitude with CO2.

After installing the Skunk2 Pro Series 1 cams, oh my god did boost come in ALOT sooner, and made my power band come in earlier....not waiting for boost between shifts = faster et's. On top of that, my boost levels were A LOT lower due to the efficiency of the cams..7psi lower to be exact by bolting them in.

We gained approx 95 horsepower and 75ft/lbs of torque through the midrange. My dyno charts do not show "overall" gains due to the tires spinning the dyno. We had to turn the boost down just to show the gains in midrange. But, by the way the graph is, we estimate around 850ish with the cams from the 815, but better power band.

I will post up the dyno charts here shortly, I know without them this means nothing and I apologize I cannot get them up this second...please bare with me.

To answer your question, type-r cams are good and dont get me wrong BUT skunk2 pro series cams were the BETTER way to go, period. If you plan to make under 450, I cannot say you will achieve the same results for I have not tested them. Contact Robert @ skunk2 for other cams such as the turbo cams on lower boost apps. Just by "bolting" in the cams, you will not achieve results, you MUST alter your maps both ignition and fuel along with the cam timing via pro series cam gears or equivalent. So as long as you have a good tuner, results are not the issue for us and lots others such as Tony1 and Florida turbo has achieved tremendous results from these cams.

Robert directly @ Skunk2 (extension 208) can vouch for this result if you need any questions. Like I said, I WILL post up the dyno charts shortly and will start a new thread regarding the cams in spring time going into fine details. Skunk2 pro series1

Heres the dyno chart with LESS BOOST to show MIDRANGE GAIN ONLY. This is our dynojet dyno 248 model, your dyno and other dynos may and probably will vary so lets not bash the numbers....it is used to show gains. Use as you please.

BTW, I went 153mph with the less boost right off the trailer in the SFWD Civic on 24.5's...just to give an example what the midrange did for me, less the overall h.p.
