SKUNK2 PRO 1 Cams Ticking like a bomb!
So I installed the Pro 1 cams and adjusted the valve lash as recommended and this thing ticks like crazy. They weren't degreed and the motor is a fresh build with new LMAs. I used Skunks quick setting and the car runs well, idles good and pulls -20 hg of vacuum (idle)
I got Ferrea Valve train but I had ITR cams ion before and they didnt tik this loud...
Any of you guys with race cars have a smooth and quiet engine or is this a little far fetched? I hope not, cause my car sounds like a Diesel!!!

sounds like your got the valve lash wrong
i was going to say LMA's next but then i saw they're fresh
nothing binding in the valvetrain?
but offcourse they're going to be louder then your itr's, have you compared the primaries of the ITR/PRO1 side by side yet?
ramp angle is quite agressive

I was so anxious to put these in, didnt really do a side by side comparison... And usually I like to admire parts before putting them in, Lol.
Technically speaking though... it shouldnt need to be degreed for valve lash to be right. I mean valve lash is just clearance right?

degreeing has no influence on valvelash...

For sure, but it'll take a few days. I took the liberty of relocating the stock ignitor to inside the cabin so once that is done, Ill video the start up.
Hey Wolve, you run the Pro 1? How noisy are they in general?

How did you set the lash? Sure you did it on the correct cylinders?
p.s. Love the user name. I can hear Martin Lawrence saying that in my head as I type this. LOL Great movie.

The car's idle should sound like this. (This engine has the Skunk2 valvetrain, Cams, Cam gears and Ferrea valves)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0yMdVOLkBM&NR=1
They need to be properly degreed in order to operate properly. They are not like the tuner series. Cam Gears are a necessity when running these cam shafts.

i would pull the cams out and check to see if your center rockers are getting scuffed up .i ran pro 2s on itr lmas and they had so much lift they were bottoming out and digging into the rockers.i think the lift on both cams are pretty close

Shodan... mine does not sound like yours in the video at all, lol.
I just have to install the Mallory and the ignitor in the cabin and hopefully I can start up this weekend...
I have a quick question about the ITR cams cause Im considering throwing those back on... Since the ITR is an OEM cam, do you have to lock VTEC to degree it or can you do it on the primaries?

Reason I ask is because I dont know how much the deck height has changed with the build. I just wanted to double check for a peace of mind...

It was set according to skunk2 specs... I had the cam printout sheet next to me when I did it. I cant remember what they are now, Lol... Im running skunk2 cam gears and yes they were done per cylinder and then I rotated the crank to the next.

Here's what I went by.
We have to, of course, lock the VTEC rocker so the correct cam lobe can be degreed in.

For those that need to know the Skunk2 Pro 1 settings and protocols for the valvetrain, see below.
http://www.skunk2.com/installation/305-05-5140.pdf
According to Brian, When degreeing the cams Valvelash needs to be at 0.
Pro Series Springs:
60lbs closed seat pressure
Install Height - 1 inch @ 320
210 lbs pressure Open @ .5 inch lift
Coil bind - Height 720 @ 600 Lift

i'm not sure why you threw the pro1s in without degreeing. the quick settings are for an untouched block and head. mine ended up at +2 on each so the quick settings would have been way off.

double check what? you have alignment holes in the cams for the belt, the tensioner takes up the slack. done.

Re: SKUNK2 PRO 1 Cams Ticking like a bomb!
Just trying to understand here... But since the length of the timing belt is constant, when deck height changes, cam timing is retarded... even with stock cams, no?
