Default Which sits higher( or lower ) in the deck?

if you take a b18c1 block and put a ls crank and ls rods in it with a set of oh lets say cp 9-1 pistons , and then take the same block and pistons and swap in a gsr crank and gsr rods which combo would have the piston sitting higher in the deck? im trying to sort this out since the ls crank has a longer stroke yet its rods are shorter so does it equal out or will one combo sit lower? thanks for the info in advance.

They will both come up flat on the deck since the LS and the GSR use the same deck height's. The GSR might b .002" lower..

Ive read before that throwing all LS components in a GSR will acutally act like a stroked GSR motor. Since the stroke on a gsr is 87mm and an LS is 89. hence more torque

yeah it is a OEM stroker kit so to speak of, i decided to go with the GSR crank and rods so the "stroker" kit is for sale.

The extra stroke is taken care of from shorter rods, so it's all in the piston or block.

Then the blocks are different, enough to be noticable, by .55mm/.022" (gsr is taller). If they are the same pistons, the GSR will be .55mm deeper. OEM LS pistons have a 30.00mm compression height, and GSR's have a 30.05mm.

That's probably another reason people get into trouble with LS/V setups, they can end up a point higher in CR in an LS block vs a GSR block with the same pistons.

Very nice calc to estimate compression ratio ----> http://www.zealautowerks.com/bseries.html

well the problem ended up being some one in the past had zero decked this benson block and then it was decked more again and now that i own it its decked so far the pistons stick 25 thou out of the hole.. i had to order a cometic 60 thou head gasket to give me 35 thou piston to deck clearance. the funny thing is we only took 4 thou off teh deck meaning the last owner had to be 21 thou out still, take into consideration a stock style gasket is only 26 thou and that means he had a 5 thou piston to deck!!! i blamed the LS crank and rods and switched to the GSR but it ended up sticking up the same. i said heck with it and just assembled it with the GSR stuff and am selling the LS stuff.
