silly focus... 19psi and 300whp
Ok, I own a focus ( or should I say I'm paying for one I hate ). I breaks a lot, and has been to the dealer about 6 times total for warrenty work. Its never raced, just drive to work and stuff ( mostly by my girl friend ) and it STILL breaks..
I was reading though HCI magazine saw this. http://www.hcimagazine.com/Tech.asp?ID=9
Its a F-max turbo kit for the focus.
I can't get over the insanly low power these POS ford "Zetec" motors put out !! The focus in the article above had:
Dyno tuning ( the most important thing to make peak power )
ported/upgraded head
Cams
Aftermarket Intake manifold
stand-alone EMS
And a very well built F-max kit
It STILL only made 300whp !!! Its a damn 2.0L DOHC motor with VVT !!! GS-Ts make close that with the POS T-25 and all stock motor ( no cams etc. )!!! Hell my 1.6L SOHC is going to make 250whp or blow-up, and I'm using junkyard parts !!! A Sohc D-series with internails to take the power could make 300whp with a similar turbo and less boost ( or about the same ) with stock head and IM !!!!
What the hell did ford do wrong on that motor ?
Sorry for the rank, it just kills me, that ford is still pushing that motor as a sport compact performance car...
GTi 1.8T
SRT-4
00' ITR
Those are factory performance sport compacts... Maybe in 2085 we might see a turbo focus that kicks ***, but these current focus's suck ***, I know, I have one...

Im sure its not all there, just like when you pick up an SCC and see a turbo Si "project car" making 200whp and running 15.7's.
I dont believe magazine articles anymore...unless I can see the car, talk to the owner, and find out everything through an unbiased source.

Re: (WrongWD)
I like the thought of a 4.6 liter rear engine/ rear wheel drive... 4v motor please. (shoehorn the eaton blower on too)
Then I would definately think about focus's.

It's not rear engine, it's front engine: at least the Foci I've seen with the modular V8. The blower fits too, there's a company who does the conversion for $60k.

You should hear what a friend from work has to say about his Focus! I'm not going to list every thing but during the first 3 months of owner ship the car was at the dealer more than his house, that’s not a joke. One of the problems was locking steering wheel that would never unlock, the car was towed to the dealer and after drilling through the steering column and taking the whole steering rack out they were able to put a new one on. He hated that car with a passion, right about the same time I had bought a 2001 7th gen Civic. Well since we both had the cars over a year and they were both brand new designs we compared the problems we had with our cars. I had some transmission work done because the reverse gear was hard to put in and 2nd gear was weird too. That was it, no other problems what so ever in 40,000 miles of driving. Th Focus had the steering problem, gas cap broke some how, ECU fried, and some kind of major transmission problem I forgot what it was, there was more but that’s all I remember.

Re: (leadfoot78)
My focus besides the 1000 recalls, brake the tranny twice, the gas cap thing you meantioned, and other mystery CELs.. It also needed a new CV axle from some reason...
I had a "factory" ground effects kit, and the rear bumber peice fell off 3 times, and they tried to bondo it up and give it, I was like " 7K miles and the bumper is falling off, that's a godd sign, I wanna new one, its not my fault it fell off". At 38K miles the front peice fell off on the interstate and I ran over it...
What a peice of crap..
I went to look at a SRT4 and dodge told me $3500 with 45K miles with a factory wing a body kit, remote start, remote windows, fully loaded, auto... I luaghed and said, " well, thanx for letting me beat the crap outta the neon, but I'm not going $6K upside down on a 45K mile car, bye.

i had a brand new focus svt 03 sitting on the showroom floor for 14,500 brand new
and no one wanted anything to do with it.
until a guy bought an STI with a 891 dollar a month car payment and said he could not afford it anymore. then he traded in the STI with 3500 miles on it for the focus.

Personally I think if they were going to do a real test of this turbo kit, they should have done it without the extras like porting, cams and IM. Just turbo and ecu.
Anyway, where is the dyno chart to accompany that article. You cannot make comparisons oh hp alone. At 250whp that focus will probably have about 250lb of torque. I personally think a d-series motor at the same hp level would lose in a race to it. Area under the curve and gearing is all that matters.
BTW, I hate foci.
I am still trying to figure out how a person ends up with a $900 car payment on a 35k car.

Show me a GST in the world that has made anything close to 300whp with a T25. You will not find anything. That focus it says made 269whp at 15psi. I think that is pretty ******* good for a damn car that comes with what 110whp? Remember not all cars are honda.
I personally think the focus is a ugly stupid car but just had to say those are damn good numbers in my opinion. I just it listed the specs of the turbo. Can't be anything too big probably a 50 trim or so.

Re: (Geovannie)
You should get over to DSM board more often.. It wasn't quite 300whp, but it was close and that focus above was MAXED OUT !!! It was just a stock block !!! And its a 2.0L !!!
Cams, Head work, intake manifold, t3/T4 turbo, HUGE intecooler, Stand-alone EMS !!!, dyno tuned, AND RACE GAS !!!
DO that to a 1.6L SOHC honda and see 430whp ( with a properly built block ) with a smaller motor and one cam.
One Sohc car made 302whp with 160K miles with stock A6 intake, stock heads, AFC hack, stock Cam/valves etc, and it was running 17psi ( 2psi less )...
Vs
A maxed out dohc 2.0L...

It said it had some mild head work, very mild cams, at 15psi it was on pump gas. I think it is good. I'm on DSM boards all the time. YOu will not find any T25 with close to 300whp. Hell you will barely even find a 14B car with close to 300whp. How do you know what T3/T4 he had? Maybe it was a 46 trim or something like that. I don't see any 1.6 sohc making 430whp with a 46 trim like you mentioned at those types of boost levels. Given the fact that they said they ran out of turbo it tells me it was something small. Maybe T04B variety. That focus is nothing great, but it is not bad.
EDIT** Just confirmed it is a t3/t4b. Rated max at 400hp. Probably something real small. Put a 60trim or something like that on there and at the same boost level you will notice big gains.
