sick of the b16 tranny
man i loved this tranny for a while but now i drive alot of highway and its ANNOYING as hell....i have an ls hatch and when i boost my goal is to be in the mid 12's.....my question is how much would an ls tranny effect my 1/4 mile goal? say i was running consistent 12 flat with the b16 tranny would i still be in the 12's with the ls? i know that's a hard question to answer but im getting the feeling by all the posts on here that my car will be WAY slower with the ls tranny.... and just for the record my friend wants to trade me his perfect ls tranny + skunk 2 intake manifold for my b16 tranny........so gsr is not an answer im looking for niether is b16 tranny with ls 5th gear..........thanks

The gsr may be a better choice than either the b16 or ls.I have a eg hatch with a ls-t.With the stock vx 13" tires it turns about 4K rpm @ 75 mph.Just on the edge of buzzy at that speed.I'm doing a gsr tranny with a ls fifth next.Should knock about 500 rpm which would be about perfect. With the 225/15 drag radials it pulls quick from first through third and doesn't need fifth at 110 mph plus.

how confident are you in rebuilding things ? if you are fairly confident and can read comprehend(sp) instructions, its not very hard to change it yourself.

just swap in the LS, you will be alot happier. How many miles do you put on your car every month? quite a bit i'm guessing..how many miles do you put on your car going down the quarter mile? not very much. At worse you would probably lose about .4 seconds

Re: sick of the b16 tranny (JDMeg95)
put in the ls tranny youll be happier plus youll get a manifold out of it.
i have had both trannies and even though the b16 tranny if really fun and i prefer the ls. i really doesnt rev that slow. add a light weight flywheel and it will compare to the b16 tranny alittle more.

yea just go with the LS tranny you'll be happier. i haven't seen any performance loss from going to an LS tranny from a GSR. and plus the LS tranny is a beast on the highway

Re: (HighRevn)
The only way to really be sure is to try em. I ran on an LS all year long last year and thought id never change. Making about 300hp and pushing the car to about 160mph was an experience. But i built an identical setup to mine for a guy and he used an usdm ITR tranny which is the same as Si except for LSD, and it was a nightmare. Tryin to shove the car into 5th gear 15' before the traps was a pain. I yanked my LS out and stuffed a GSR in and i believe that has got to be the all around best tranny for under 500hp. But i know thats not an option for you. And the top end on an LS tranny if your making 300hp is pretty phenominal. Go LS. My .02
:EDIT:.....I did a 12.1@118 on regular 'ol street tires making right around 300hp on the LS tranny

Re: (a1320honda)
the ls trannie has much long gears. which is great for high hp cars that have nothing but traction problems and are so fast that they must shift into 5th gear with a b16 tranny
if your not making much power like under 300-350whp and your still still staying in 4th gear at the end of the quater mile a ls tranny will make you much slower. i guarantee you your trap speep with the ls tranny will be lower
if you want to DD and race you car a b16 with a ls 5th gear would be ideal
