Default **** in my catchcan

Well apon taking my catchcan fittings off my valvecover for something I noticed that there is an almost milky oil residue inside the bung. I assume its because of moisture but I want check for sure. My friends has the same stuff in his and I snapped a pic today. Seeing if this is common? These are drainback cans so it kinda bothers me this crap could be going back into my block.

its normal, if your worried take your VC off and look under that... if you got milk there well thats another thread

This is why I do not like running drainbacks (even though I do) because the outside air/moisture contaminates whats in the can in addition to the blowby gases and whatever else makes it into the can before being dumped back into your motor oil.

My oil was always disgusting within 500mi and I was always quick to blame E85 but my catchcan had alot to do with it im sure.

ill never NOT run a drain back setup. (just emphasizing not starting a brawl)
that is ok in some circumstances.
i agree with you, and ben.

but if you drag the car alot, the can fills up fast, and in some cases in 1 pass.

if you are up on maintenance, you wont have any issues. i change oil pretty much every event because i have a lot of in and ouf of the garage idiling and the oil gets contaminated with fuel also.

to answer the question, the **** in the can, is the hot oil pulling the moisture out of the air in the catch can.

This stuff drains back in a factory application as well. But who ever pointed out about the air contaminating makes a pretty valid point I never even thought about that........ Im wondering if you could run a sealed can and use the breather on the vc would that be suffice to vent the pressure.....

not cool if your on the track. seriously dangerous to yourself and others.

hell even on the street that means you're dumping oil so you will have to top off every now and then. not to mention that is just makes a mess

So many old school (and really really fast) domestics run the valve cover vents into open headers...it's the same thing as dumping it on the ground except it's sucking it out. Just because everyone has a catch can, doesn't mean every setup has lots of blowby either. A setup with almost none (like a stock engine with a turbo on it) could easily run a couple tubes down to the ground and have no problems at all.

An yes, the water evaporates from the hot oil in your crankcase so that's no reason to not run a drainback if you need to.

i run drain back. what you see there does not concern me. its just a little moisture in the oil. since oil and water do not mix it looks milky like that.

once your motor comes up to operating temperature all the moisture will evaporate.

ive run drain back since day one, and i always will.

the amount of moisture is so low... you will never have a problem.
