Default shaft play in and out?

i recently got a t3/t4 .60 trim. turbo is dry no oil in it. it has a small amount of side to side no contact to the housing. it does have a small amount of in and out play. ofcourse the seller says that it was fine on his car no smoking or nething. the housing has no marks so i dont beleive nething has been touching. compressor housing is dry and turbine side has regular exhaust soot. so i wouldnt think the oil rings are bad. but im worried about the in and out. my buddy seems to think its fine. he says hes running a similiar turbo on his murker with same play and no issues. ive searched and im getting mixed reviews. thanks for the help

It might be a idea to mark everything off with a pen and take it apart. If there is a issue, it will be to do with the thrust bearing.

I know if the oil pressure to the turbo isn't adequate it can cause the thrust bearing to wear down when the turbo comes onto boost hard.

Ok thanks. I haven't used it yet. I'm in the process of building right now. He had been using it and I see no sign of wear on the housing, Fins look fine. Compressor housing is dry. My buddy was saying that was a good thing. That too much shaft play would take out the oil ring. It would have oil in the compressor housing. He said since it wasnt a ball bearing with no oil in the center housing u would have some play. That the oil takes up some of the space and I guess kinda tightens it up.
