Default semi OT sorry 2.2 litre ECOTEC engine?

Firstly I need links to US GM tuning forums that deal with the ECOTEC engines

Ok on with the story

Over here in the UK we get a Vauxhall (Also known as Opel both GM brands) VX220 (a Lotus Elise chassis with different bodywork & motor)

Which US GM cars does the 2.2 ECOTEC engine come in?

I've seen HT that the GM drag cars are making crazy hp is that with the 2ltr iron block or the 2.2 alloy block?

Thanks in advance

Ah ok so if we wanted to make say 400hp or so turbo'd what would we need to do to keep the motor together?

We plan to race a pair of these if Vauxhall (GM UK) come up with the right deal

no, although you can buy the parts from the race motor directly from gm.

the reason they destroked it was so they could safely rev the motor higer

Here's the GM Sport Compact Performance Build Book. They tell you step by step how to make anywhere from stock to 1400 hp from the Ecotec. Most of the 4T65E race parts are also available. Some of the Grand Prix guys will be trying them on 500+ WHP 3500 lb cars.

The supercharged Cobalt SS and Saturn ION both use the 2.0 liter aluminum block Ecotec. It is basically the same as the motor in the Saab 9-3SS. GM has relied heavily on Saab's design input to create the FI I4s they're now installing worldwide:

"Key components that carry over from the Saab 2.0-liter engine into the Ecotec 2.0L SC include direct mount oil cooler, oil jets for piston cooling, heavy duty pistons, stronger connecting rods, forged steel crankshaft, larger oil sump, sodium filled exhaust valves for improved durability, and a high strength aluminum cylinder head."

i would just upgrade the pistons and rods.......the crank and block are pretty stong and should be able to handle that power.

also you want to upgrade the valve springs and retainers. the springs are pretty soft and the retainers are a joke.....im suprised they can hold the valve closed.

The Saturn Sky kills the Lotus. I think its the first Saturn that doesn't look like a total piece of ****.

If I'm not mistaken, don't the Saabs have 2.0L turbo Ecotecs?

Yes, currently, only the 9-3SS has the 2-liter Ecotec. The 9-5 still uses an all-Saab engine, the Saabaru has a Subie boxer, and the SUV has whatever Blazers have.

SUV has the inline 6, but it has the rear end that the Trailblazer SS will have.

Thanks for the great info

So do the de stroked 2.2's run the saab 2ltr cranks??

It looks like pistons & rods seem to be the best way & valve gear to keep the head together

Is there anything around like hondata for the GM cars or is it all stand alone ecu's?

the vx220 has the turbo 2.0liter motor, while the saturn will most likely have the non turbo 2.2liter motor, its a sharp looking car but i would prefer the 4.0 sec 0-60 the vx220 has

Digital Horsepower, HP Tuners, EFI Live, and a few of the other GM PCM tuning programs may have a solution for you. The GM PCM's are VERY advanced and can be very highly tuned.

If you do go standalone, Big Stuff 3 is worth a look. They have quite a few computers desgned to work with GM engines.

Before buying any parts, I would read the GM tuning manuals thoroughly. They'll let you know what's necessary and what's not so that you can build the best engine possible for the least $$ possible.
