Default Screw the AFC hack... just ordered Hondata

Well I've had it. Thinking that my injector problems were finally cured (at least somewhat) when I recived my RX7 injectors, I went ahead and installed them with much anticipation. Did all the wiring, check and triple checked everything, start the car up and... *putt-putt-putt*. Same thing my DSM's did when I first installed them which just needed to be tuned a little with the AFC. So ok, "no problem" I think to myself as I tweak the AFC a little. Add some fuel and the misfiring goes away... for a few seconds. Hrmm, ok I add a little more fuel.. same thing, a little more.. more.. more, the damn thing STILL misfires at idle

I ended up pushing the fuel all over the place and I simply could not get the damn thing to idle without a constant misfire. I pulled the plugs and strangley, 2 of them looked "normal", while the other two were super black and fouled. I know that all 4 injectors were firing becuase when I'd pull a clip, the car would nearly die, so I couldn't figure that one out for the life of me... *sigh*

Anyways, I just got off the phone with SFP, Hondata S200B is on the way with tuning to come in a few days. No more band-aid garbage, I know the hack works well for many, hell it was excellent on my Civic, but the GSR simply does NOT want to cooperate with me whatsoever. Let's see her bitch and moan with Hondata!!

- to the endlesss frustration that is turbo.
- to the light at the end of the tunnel

I wouldnt trust the hack, ive seen too many problems. I mean **** we spend 3kona turbo kit , but we can't spare a few extra hundred dollars to do it right. Im going to run fmu for 2 months until i can afford the hondata

There is nothing wrong with the afc hack.. been using it now for about a yr now. Either you didn't set your car sensor to 6 in and out or you are just doing it wrong. For one, with bigger injectors u want to turn it to the (-) side not (+). For now, -35% hi/lo until u get it tuned.

Actually no. I cut a deal with South Florida Performance, namley Frank, to tune it himself. He tuned the Hondata 2B on my Civic last year and that car ran great for what it was, so I have the utmost confidence that this one will turn out well also. Now I'd like to be able to tune myself, but that's going to have to wait for some time.

There are 2 really lame aspects to this post.

1) Inferring that "software" ought to be cheap.
2) Not offering someone an alternative opinion after accusing them of being "raped".

I agree that most things (including hondata) are overpriced, but it's what the market will bear...

run an FMU for 2 months? FMU's are comparable to fuel management as carburetor are to fuel injection. Thats is just ghetto old technology vacuum dependent high risk static fuel pressure. Ill take AFC hack over FMU anyday!

business 101,
cost of production for the raw material is low indeed. but cost of keeping the business afloat including, R&D, race teams, customer support, marketing, paying employees adds up to a lil more than 50 dollars for a blue box with a software program built into it.

its only 300 bux for the S200 and then add 1-2 hours worth of tuning is around 300ish.

to each his own, ihave my own opinion about hondata, and you clearly have your own opinion. i doubt my post will change your opinion. i understand that there are downsides to the hondata and other programs have more adjustability than the hondata.
just choose the best for each situation. there is no perfect tuning system for everyone.

Hondata hardware/software is more than $300. If you're going to do something meaningful with, it's more like $500 - $1000.

This NOT to knock Hondata or Doug McMillan (whom I have met and super nice guy). Hondata is a great product. But other people have written software that does the samething as Hondata and gives it away. So why pay money when other people are giving comparable products away?

good point. there are alot of companies that are coming up from the ground that are done by people who know alot about a certain niche thing and make good stuff for cheap. i think the guy tinkerfab is kinda like that. he knows his stuff, has quality parts, yadda yada. but there are some things that arent for everyone.

hondata is getting wide known enough that most decent shops with dynos have hondata tuning access. and are familiar with it, and have plenty base maps done up already.
customer support, if they have questions or problems hondata has a number you can call to get support.
hondata is a normal company with marketing advertising and what not. they exist outside of the internet. hence if they want to make a profit they need to charge for their services.

these are 2 different things, and hondata is for some people, and this other product u are refering to; is for others.

edit: some people also might want do have options like g-sensor and full throttle shift.

i just read up on the free software, but does it also offer datalogging?

Reliability, quality control, warranties, guarantees, factory support, company longevity, brand familiarity, etc., etc.....

Really, how much quality control is involved in chipping an ecu?
Reliability? doesnt come into question.

I have much respect for blake, and everyone else (ghettodyne) for releasing
software that benefits the entire honda community.

just a quick comment:
all to often you guys turn to the spend more the better prodcuts argument. the safc hack is cheap and easy and whe done right if effective. the hondata system is expensive but also when tuned is awsome. to each there own.

hondas/acuras are econoboxs that are built on the foundation of a reliable product at a cheap price. so next time u bash someone for not spending uber bucks on the latest gadget thinks about what kinda car u drive. WE ARE ALL BALLERS ON BUDGETS.

Screw hondata, if i'd use anything besides a hack, it'd be Uberchip. There's nothing wrong with it and once u learn how, you've got everything covered.

I know ill get flamed for it, but whatever, there are a ton of success stories, it's cheap, and it's not a hack.

hondata

though many may not like it or think it's overpriced and underfeatured... it works great and that's what it's all about.
