SCORED a 1g bov dirt cheap, would cleaning it hurt it?
I think I got a very good deal on this 1g dsm bov. Im planning on dodge modding it for higher more accurate boost control, but as you can see its stock and dirty. Is there a good way to clean it other than just dunking it in simple green and going at it with a toothbrush.
Can you take them apart, or should I tape off the ports and stick to cleaning the outside or is a full teardown not to hard?? I dont want to damage the internals by trying to clean it up/rebfurbish it
For $20 Im quite happy to get a reliable piece

And in order to see any boost pressure that won't leak, you'll need to "Crush" the top end of the actual valve. They tend to leak in stock form.. Remember, you'll be running a turbocharger at higher CFM than that BOV was ever designed for, so don't get into "I'm only doing 8-10psi, isn't that ok?".. The answer is no. Crush the top..
And at $20, you almost paid too much for it. LOL...

I will definetely be making a new pipe for it, I have a steel flange already to mount wherever I like
Im more curious if I can take it apart or not to clean it. Will it be difficult to re-assemble without damaging anything??
I am most likely going to crush the top slightly, and do the "dodge mod" which seems very effective
Id really like to clean it up to like new though and make sure the insides are clean aswell

HAH, if you seen my wife typing you would have thought she was 12 or 13 years old with all of her acronyms and shortcuts. That hag is in her 60's!!! Either way, its a lifestyle. You can sit there with your thumb up your *** and watch the world pass you by, or join in on the fun. Now don't get me wrong, I am not going to be going to any Justin Beaver concerts, wearing womans pants, using lotions, or what have you. It is just nice to be able to function in a fast paced technology filled world. Ahh, life was so much simpler back in the "good ol' days"...
OP - I thought you said you weren't cheap? Why are you trying to rig every single POS that crosses your path?
PS - My favorite one was CIFTGODWBC... That some how means "Come In From The Garage Or Dinner Will Be Cold"... how in the hell am I supposed to decifer that garbage!?!?!

I chose to go with a dsm 1g because I think its a good factory functional piece, and I had a 1g steel flange already laying around. Cheap? Maybe. Just dont see the reason to spend more money.

Alot of people buy a certain bov simply for the noise it produces and not how it performs. Which is rice to me

Where the hell did this "ricer " thing come from? We don't say it over here lol. I don't get how you can relate rice to a car ...

Re: SCORED a 1g bov dirt cheap, would cleaning it hurt it?
As a result, the term "rice burner" (derived from a rice cooker) was a tag given to any Japanese or import car that was brought in, and the name still sticks in many parts of the U.S., including the manufacturing hubs of Detroit, MI (aka, "The Motor City") and Dayton OH, (even though American Honda's manufacturing core is in the state of Ohio.)
In fact, Wikipedia has helped define this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner
So something that is only for aesthetic look on a Japanese car but performs less than intended function is deemed "rice"..

For what its worth, i used a crushed 1G bov on my setup that made over 700. But it was starting to leak just a bit on the 721whp pull.

Thanks for posting that, definetely worth something
I never questioned the functionality and reliability, more so just if I should take it apart, but Im going to go with Shodans advice and just tape the holes, simple green it, and maybe a coat of silver paint
A1320 was the bov just crushed and ran like that, or did you also do the dodge mod?
