Default safe boost for fmu and stock fuel pump

Any idea on how much boost you can run on a stock fuel pump and 12:1 fmu? I'm guessing 5psi but not sure.

I'm guessing you can run no boost safely. Why would you use the stock pump? heh

Motor is d16z6. I was reading some forums and the max boost on the stock fuel pump (92-95 civic) is like 40-50 psi. so that means like 3-4 psi boost on a 12:1 fmu. But not really sure if that's true because the guys weren't really sure about it either. what do you guys think?

I think you shouldn't be running an FMU with the stock fuel pump, for sure.

so the best combo (besides chipping ecu and upgrading injectors) would be 12:1 fmu, inline pump and missing link. that would be safe for 7-8 psi, right?

Yes. Get a high pressure *inline* pump (like the one that comes with the drag kit) and you will be OK.

How about nooooo.....and just wait till you can afford the right fuel menagement. This way you are going to dick around and just pop your **** and you'd have to invest more money in the **** you destroyed.

Bleh FMUs work fine at low boost (7psi and below) if you pull a few degrees static timing.

after 7 psi it will start leaning out fast but for only 90$ on a Walbro 255 you might as well toss that in seeing it only takes a half hour to do. I wouldnt waste ur money on a FMU id never do it again, have someone write you a uberdata chip or something similier.

as long as it's under 7psi it should be fine. People talk **** about fmu's all the time but the thing is they do work after all. It's kinda obselete now with uberdata and hondata but these babies do thier job if they are done right. People blow their engines because they run too lean, that's why i wanted to know what boost is safest only with a fmu and stock fuel pump. but i'm on a budget (homemade style under $400) that's why i'm going fmu. And after all this, i guess i'll buy me an inline pump.

Don't use a 12:1 FMU with a Walbro pump. It WILL lean out. Heh. You guys have seen the flow graphs for the Walbro pumps @ high fuel pressure right?

i heard the walboro pumps aren't good at high psi, alot of people recommend using inline pump instead.

Definetly go with the inline for your setup. Its true, people have been using the FMU for quite a while... Everybody is saying they are the worst thing ever but what did they use before they had Hondata and TE/UD? The FMU... lol Its all good, happy boosting.

what about fuel pumps from other cars. Something from the junk, like a mr2, 300zx, turbo supra. Would those fuel pumps work for say 5-6 psi using a 12:1 fmu?

Nope... those are all designed for less than 150psi...

Bosch inline is the FMU champ. It's just physically big to push the high pressures.

For example a gsr can produce 180 horses using 240cc injectors and probably the same fuel pump as civics (not 100% sure). So why can't I use their fuel management on my car. Becasue I'd only be making about only 160 hp @ 7psi. can someone please clarify this.

You will be fine it is just a d16. My bro had the setup of FMU Missing Link and Walbro 255 and his first motor last 30k at 10psi and dynoed 198hp. Motor died after a long boost run and 15psi boost. We put in another block and car runs fine again.

Sure stand alone is better but FMU setups are not as bad as everyone on here makes them out to be. Beside single cam motors are cheap and everywhere. Good Luck...

but what I don't understand is why spend the money on an fmu, fuel pump and missing link. Honestly, chipped ecu and DSM 450s = more safe than FMU and missing link. Even when pulling massive ammounts of timing. Just doesn't make sense anymore.
