Default s300 help needed-USB drivers

Bought the p28/s300 deal from HAmotorsports, which does all the socketing and testing to make sure the ecu is good(so that eliminates any faulty ecu possibilities)

I first installed the Smanager, then installed the ecu, plugged in the usb to the ecu/laptop, then turned the key to 'On' which was suppose to install the USB drivers according to the directions. It didnt, so i looked up the manual way to do it. The manual way isnt working either. I go through "device manager" and It goes to the last process to install the drivers but at the end it says cannot install drivers, and i believe error 28 or 29? What also confuses me at the corner of the Smanager it says 'drivers installed' as if they are installed but it wont respond with the ECU, and says 'Offline'. I tried uninstalling the Smanager and reinstalling but it still wont let me manually install the usb drivers. Not sure whats going on and was hoping for some help on here.

Non of this should matter but im using an Acer Aspire One laptop(windows XP), no cd drive so i use an external cd drive to install the Smanager.

Download smanager from hon data website to cross that off the list of problems. If that doesn't work I'd say a socket issue

I dont think so. try the download. It should run fine on win XP. you could have bad usb ports on your laptop or virus on your laptopnot letting it connect. Also do you have any software on the laptop that blocks ports ?

i just uninstalled the cd smanager and did the download off the site. it Finally it said 'Hondata ECU Found'(first time it did that) when i connected the ecu to the laptop and went thru the process to install the usb drivers but at the end of trying to install the drivers it said 'Error occured during installation of the device' and 'Driver is not intended for this platform' So that eliminates it being an USB port problem being it found the Hondata ecu when i plugged them together, plus i have 3 ports on this laptop, i tried all 3 just to help eliminate that possibly being a problem. I have virus protection on the laptop also, and it works fine as if it doesnt have any virus's. Shouldnt be anything blocking the ports either being it was able to see the ecu this time, its just the drivers for some reason that wont work. when the error message said 'Driver is not intended for this platform is that meaning for the Smanager or my laptop?

Once again thanks for your help man. appreciate it alot. hoping to get a basmap loaded today if all goes well

can you take out your s300 and take a good picture of it from the top and post it please. Not to say they sell fake stuff but there are fakes out there and one of the issues with fake s300 is what your experiencing. If its real then the ecu setup is bad or just a bad s300

Sounds like the connection from Hondata USB to PC is not a good one. Usually when it comes to USB is that a full power source must be consistent. Once there is inconsistencies that is why the PC says it could not load the drivers.

Ever had a flash drive or external HDD where the connection was loose and you had to unplug or jiggle it to make it to work.

If all is good then I would suggest forcing the driver in device manager if you know how to do that.

I did notice my battery ran low to the point it wouldnt crank twice today from messing with getting the s300 to read the laptop, so i had to popstart it a few times. So your thinking i need a fully charged car battery for the usb drivers to work? I tried it a few times when the battery still had a charge and it still didnt work. is it possible that if my laptop battery isnt fully charged that that could make the difference for inconsistant power?? im just throwing out some ideas to try eliminate any possible reason for it not to work. I did wiggle the connections on the cord to see if that would work and still no luck...

Did you do anything different the last time it worked?? i wouldnt think Hondata would make a product thats a hassle to install drivers for. for 675 this should be simple as **** to install. but anyway Did you have to keep trying to manually install the usb drivers or did it do it on its own when you turned the key to 'on'. also everytime you uninstalled/installed, did you restart your computer before plugging it into the s300?

No you dont need a full battery charge but there will need to have a good connection with the Hondata and PC. As far as the other user stating he had to install and uninstall multiple times give you an idea that the software or drivers is whack. Maybe you may have to force the drivers.

Does the PC recognize it as a "Unknown Device"?

Take the s300 out of the ecu and put it back in maybe a loose contact

That would require unsoldering it though wouldnt it? If it goes that deep into diaging it, its going back to HAmotorsports for them to fix it. Im gonna keep messing with it for about another week yet before i do that though. Im hoping it'll work the 10th time like the other guy said lol

No the s300 board slides onto pins. The pins are soldered into the ecu. Just pull up on the board evenly and carefully then put back in place

Last call for any other advise or tips on this before I give HAmotorsports or Hondata a call. Heres the newest update-- I can now get the Laptop to see and pop up 'Hondata ECU' everytime i re-install Smanager and turn the key to 'on' which it goes on to automatically install the drivers. every single time it tells me 'Cannot install drivers' and a pop up comes up saying ''Hardware/drivers not installed correctly and may not work'' even though in the bottom corner of Smanager it says 'Drivers installed' but at the same time if I go into device manager the Hondata logo has a yellow ''!'' over it showing the drivers arent installed. -EXTREMEMLY frustrating-
Tried this on XP and windows 7 and still the same **** with the drivers not installing
