Default running a wideband on open downpipe?

I would like to get a wideband for my car, just so i know where my readings are at. I'm currently running open downpipe. People have been saying not to put the wideband on until i get a full exhaust or i will get inaccurate readings. Is this true? if so why? thanks

You will be fine as long as you have the o2 bung atleast 12 inches away from your exhaust opening (end of your dp)

^^^what he said. When I ran mine open downpipe before I got the exhaust made, it was reading way lean since it would get some of the outside air in there with the exhaust gases. Just keep it away from the end of the downpipe
