running rich after turbo removal - need help
I had a garret t3 with a 12:1 vortec fmu... after i removed everything i'm running aweful rich - like 15mpg on the highway and if i let the car idle it makes the snow around the muffler black...
I've checked my vaccum lines - especially the one to the fpr... but they seem to be great.
the car idles odd - kinda surges very quitely - it just feels like it's getting more fuel then it wants.
what else could be making this happen? do i need to replace my fpr or my O2? I have no check engine lights.
thanks

No, I wasn't aware that was something I needed to do or not do. I didn't do anything to my fuel pump.
Should I have?

ouch... heh yeah - i definetly removed the FMU - but i guess that's a good place to start...
what do you guys think about me possibly damaging my stock FPR - could i have damaged it so now it runs richer at any ammount vaccum? does that make
i mean the car runs absolutly fine otherwise... it just uses lots of gas and has a odd idle... i just drove it 10 hours out to school and it just ate gas, and ran fine.

You were running a 12:1 FMU on the stock pump? You didn't install a 2nd pump (inline) or an upgraded pump in the tank?
I find it hard to believe that your engine would survive for even an a couple of boost runs on the stock pump.

Re: (Sonny)
the car never actually ran right with the turbo on, it seemed to be in limp mode and i only drove it down the street once.
No i never installed an extra pump, didn't realize it was necessary - obviously i don't know what i'm talking about, but i was under the impression that the stock fuel pump would get teh fuel to the rail, and the fmu would hold the fuel back from going into the return line - thus increasing fuel pressure?
but anyway i'm here to learn to what did i do wrong and what should I do now?

did it throw a CEL? I bet the map sensor was seeing boost. You may not have had enough check valves.

Re: (SOHC_MShue)
It did throw a CEL while i was running the car with the turbo on it...
But i'm not worried about that now, i just want the thing to run normal since the turbo is off and i can't figure out why it's running so rich, anybody have any ideas?

Re: (95hatchfire)
it probably your idle control valve. one way to check is by removing ur airtake tube. inside the thottle body there is two or one holes take ur thumb and plug each one seperatly while the car is running . if the car goes back to idling correctly its ur idle control valve or u need to bleed the coolent for air bubbles.

Re: (UJLSMoFo)
It's the inline fuel pump as well as the FMU. Take out the inline, put in a walboro 255. Take out the FMU and put something to tune with, like a VAFC or AEM. I had the same problem after my turbo install. I as well as several other cars we have tuned would idle rich and run dangerously lean.

Whoa, no need to yell. I am sorry that I misread it, I'll try to let that happen again then just for you. So if you took that personally or something.

Re: (95hatchfire)
okay, so i found the two holes in the throttle body.
when i covered teh bottom one, the car idled lower but didn't seem to idle any better,
when i covered both at once the car dies instantly
and when i covered teh top one alone the car dies instantly...
so is it working? is that sensor why i'm running rich or is it working properly?

Re: (SOHC_MShue)
I just took it off becuase I didn't want to go turbo anymore - i had a long drive to college adn the thing wasn't running right - it probally was the CEL and the thing probally was seeing boost - i just want it to run right now that the turbo stuff is off, and that's what i'm trying to figure out - why the damn this is still running so rich.
