My car sounds like a mix between a SRT4 and a semi with open downpipe. Does yours? </TD></TR></TABLE>

SRT4's are way quiet in comparison to either the GSR or the hatch, definatley semi like

But you my freind, have a tiny motor.

Try that with a 9500rpm 2.0l GSR.

You'll like it for the first .2 seconds.

When I had my turbo installed I drove it for two weeks with an open downpipe. The car will be LOUD. And you won't have as much back pressure. At some points when you stop, you might feel the heat coming up from under the center console where the shifter is, but it wont be that hot. The car will be very loud, it will sound like a drag car. I hope this helps.

I run an open dp on my setup. Its loud, smelly, but fast and cheap.

Ignore the tinfoil it was only for temp.

i will never run open downpipe. Ive done it a few times, but it is so obnoxiously loud.. its like "LOOK AT ME EVERYONE MY CAR IS MODIFIED"... in fact i want to put a chambered muffler on my car and run my wastegate back into the exhaust cuz even tho my car looks sleeper it sure doesnt sound it.

yea i have an exhaust cut out the one out of jegs for like 20$ it is on an ls fully built with a T61 turbo i will never use the dump unless it is at the track. it sounds terrible i can hear some spooling but holy **** i don't want to take it over 3k it is so loud. BTW i had a t3-t04e before w/ open dp when i first built it and just at idle (never drove it open dp) it had a lot more spool sound/whistle.

So when are you gonna dyno that thing liam?

I just can't wait to see what kind of #'s you put down.

We tried to dyno my car a few weeks ago, but it was misfiring huge...The #s are in my sig.

Default open dp

I want to thank everyone first off for posting on this thread. It is very helpful. I have decided i indeed am going to run open dp, if for no other reason than to see exactly what it is like.

This is sort of off topic but I was planning to run open dp for a few weeks until I get a new exhaust. My question is, will I need a new retune when the new exhaust is on? Sorry to thread jack.

dumped wastegate is gay
open downpipe is gay

I had both going when I was on the dyno this past saturday. Dumped gate sound like a gay huge exhaust leak, and open DP makes me teary eyed from the fumes. Went to a movie that night with my GF and she wondered why she smelled "like that kid at school with the rusty camaro"

I made another downpipe with a MANUAL cutout so that I can uncork it at the track, but there's no way I would run it on the street for any prolonged time.

You can say that again. . .
My E-cutout broke, and my DP is pointed just like that, and my ****** entire engine bay is black. No longer nice and shiny like it was. I'm waiting to clean it until I throw in the new motor. . hahah. . .

open down pipe is loud, but i like it
I have run it before on a 2.5" dp and it was fine
On my new set-up I will do it, too.

4" downpipe dumped behind the passenger side front tire
dumped wastegate out the passenger side bumper
a shitload of boost of a SP71 GTQ (pretty big)
and 10,000 rpm
on a 2+ liter
it will be fun

ive been running open dump now for 1.5 years and only time it gets connected is whenever i break an axle and have to bring it in to the dealership for some warranty work. but with the new cutout its a press of a button away but still i ride with open dp. but i like to suffer and i dont smell like gas.

Depends on your goals.

Loud dp will be fun to drive around for a little while, but if it is daily driven and your like me it will begin to get on your nerves.

Personaly i would rather have a full 3 inch system that is quiet as possible, mixing a little class with the loss of power.

Look at the big $ cars could be faster wide open but it just sounds like crap. RUN EXHUAST SAVE YOUR SELF smell, sound, and comfort.
