Running Lean Car Feels Weird Why?
Right now just picked up this turbo hatch, but i'm gona redo a few things.
It's got the:
Greddy Turbo Kit (92-95 kit) running stock boost
Vortech FMU 12:1 Disc
MSD Inline Fuel Pump
Stock injectors (for now)
Blitz DD BOV
Spearco Front Mount IC
MSD 6a *with blaster coil*
NGK Plug Wires
NGK 2 Step Colder Plugs
Stock Bottom End
Built Gude/Bullfrog Z6 Head (camshaft, valves, springs, retainers, port and polished)
When u try to pound the car it runs lean, doesn't seem to really wana build up much boost, and it hesitates. A/F gauge (which isn't very accurate) reads lean and the car just looses throttle responce and acts weird. Still maintains a perfect idle, no fuel leaks, no oil leaks everything is good. No funny smells or anything.
I did pick up some 450's which should hopefully be here soon, and i'm changing the fuel pump to a walboro because that is just what I like and have always used. Just curious as to why I would be running lean with a fuel pump, and that FMU. I would think I would be running rich.
Car toss's a CEL # 1 & # 41 both 02 sensor related, but for some reason my friend doesn't believe it's the o2 sensor.
Anyone got any other ideas that I can check? Feel free to ask questions if needed and i'll provide as much info as possible.
Thanks

my car did the same crap with that setup. Ditch all that crap and get a better EMS. I thought I would be rich to... I was wrong. Don't keep beating on your car like that, or you are going to be picking the pieces up off the road.
please don't put 450's in with that fmu. You won't have a lean problem anymore
.....you will need something to scale them down. Just ditch all that junk and get better managment.

Yeah I told my friend that . . . . he thinks he knows a lot about boost, but he doesn't I've been the one that has had about 4 different turbo setups from 2 on my SOHC Vtec, 1 bad *** kit I put together for my built LS running 1 bar, and now this setup. He's a kewl guy though he said if he blew my **** he has the $$ to replace it tomorrow, and he also has a spare SOHC Vtec motor that he can toss in my car. I'm gona drop in the Walboro 255lph today even though it's raining and see what's up.
I'm just waiting for this dude to hurry up and send my 450's to get those in there.
Why would the car be leaning out though? Plent of people have had success using the FMU's on stock injectors. I guess they just arn't for me.
Wish I had a wideband as well . . . . that was stolen when these little punks decided to jack my car and strip it down to the shell, they got my brand new wideband, and nobody in my area has one which sucks ***.

If you calculate how much extra fuel you can squeeze out from the stock injectors with a 12:1 disc, you'll see that there isn't a lot of extra fuel there. FMU's are just plain laggy in terms of raising the fuel pressure and getting the fuel you need. Imagine, you'll have to hit boost first in order for the FMU to activate, wait for the fuel pressure to rise, and then finally you'll start to get more fuel. That lag is enough to make your car run lean, detonate, or even fry the motor.

well did some thinking and my instinct was right . . . first off in the pooring rain this mroning I isntalled my walboro fuel pumo. Took the car for a spin . . . she ran better, but still had some lean spots. Met up with my buddy to take off my fuel line and take it to a friend of his to get a new one made, still ran lean after that went back on. I thought to myself . . . .
the previous owner said the o2 was bad, but that didn't seem right to me. I though this dude ran 2 fuel pumps:
MSD Inline
Stock Fuel Pump +
FMU 12:1 Disc
great way to max out the duty cycles on the injectors so I said **** I got a spare set of stock LS Injectors from my old LS Motor, slammed them in and WAM! the ******* car is perfect, it pulls hard as hell with the built SOHC Vtec head, and 5 psi. The car runs much better in boost. Just waiting for my 450's to show up and i'll be running uberdata, but for the now the car runs like a champ due to one or more of the other injectors failing from the idiot previous owner not knowing how to boost.
