Running biult engine w/ 9:1 comp. pistons WITHOUT turbo yet...any significant power decrease???
I'm in the process of building a B18c block with the usual...Eagle rods, JE 9:1 comp. pistons/rings, new bearings, new water pump, etc...but i'll be swapping my B16A2 head and tranny onto this block and running the stock B16 ECU once the block is built and running this combo for about 4 months until i can save up for my turbo stuff...now, my question is, will i notice a significant power decrease on this B16 head/B18C block combo with my 9:1 comp. pistons, as compared to my stock B16A2 engine with stock comp. until i go turbo?

no replacement for displacement, it'll still be faster even with the relatively low compression.

really? i would think that with the lower compression I may lose a little power on the high end..ohh well, it'll pull like hell once the tubo goes on!
i guess i should also ask, that with the slighter larger displacement and lower compression, do i run the chance of running lean with the stock ECU? do i need to raise fuel pressure a little?

slightly leaner, but i wouldn't worry about it. Why beat on it now anyways? It'll be slow compared to the turbo coming later, and plus, if you're nice to it, you have less chance of breaking something, which would push back your ultimate goal.

From a stock B16 (10.2:1) to a B16/B18C combo, the increase in displacement, torque will definitely make up for the loss of CR.... general rule is 10hp per point of compression right ? You will make up for that with more tq and about equivalent Hp... maybe a bit higher.
When I was with my 9:1 in an LSVT, I noticed the engine was overall sluggish, but pulled strongly in vtec. Your lowend will not be spectacular, but should be a bit better than a stock b16. I don't think you'll have much of a lean prob either... the fuel pressue on a B16 is around 40-45 psi and a stock GSR is around 48-55.

all I know is that my friends si has 9:1 JE's and after break in, and before turbo, he lost to my buddys stock 97dx hatchback..hahhaa prolly the best race ive seen in a while.
