Default RPS clutch question.

I've had a RPS clutch in my car for several months now and my friend just put one in his car. My question is that I've heard that RPS clutches do not need a "break in" period and was just wondering if that was true and if anyone else has heard this, thanks

All clutches need a break-in period. Whomever told you they didn't needs to have their ASE certification revoked.

How do you like your RPS clutch? I personally am having a **** of a time with this clutch. It likes to slip ALOT if heated up even a little bit. Mine only has like 5k miles on it, 4500 of those are highway and its suppose to hold 440 lb/tq when im only putting down maybe 240.

As for the RPS Clutch's, I have found that they don't hold the power when they get hot. For a better clutch set up look into a clutch master's or exedy setup!!!!

As for instalation of the clutch, Aaron, your clutch was installed right, if it wasn't it wouldn't work at all. Your problem lies with the Manufacture.

Oh Im not saying it was install error. I dont really think RPS had a leg to stand on when they tried to blame it on you. As you said, it didnt work right in your wifes car either, or the other guy in utah.

Im just wondering about where they got theirs from, b/c some people say they have no problem with them at all.

BTW you headed out to phoenix this weekend jason?

Weird, maybe just some bad luck for you. Ive been boosted on a RPS clutch for around 2yrs. As of late, its been the same RPS PP on a stock disc. Im very hard on my car, and so far so good. This is with HP ranging form 240-310 over the time Ive had it.
I will say that pedal effort is high (cable tran), but have never had a problem with grip. (first disc lasted about a year)

Yes we are heading to Az. this weekend. As for the other car in Utah, it is my wife's car. I sold it to a friend of mine. That is who is having the same problem. When you going to get a v-tech head on that thing Aaron?

I've actually had good luck with RPS clutches... but I have only used them at relatively low power/torque levels.

i've been using RPS clutches on both of my setups w/ great results.. 1st one was on my LS turbo w/ 10 psi and the 2nd one is on my gsr turbo w/ 15psi daily driven..

they've held on strong for me over the 3 yrs I've had them..

last yr at the track , i did a 2nd gear burnout and ended up burning the clutch to the point that it smelled all day.. but its still holding strong to this day.. havne't seen any side affects of that day yet..

RPS gets a from me

Talked to JT way back when the car only had rougly 1k miles on it. Got bullshit responses with him saying there was NO way it could be the clutch and blamed everything else he could think of.

Thats not customer service, thats just avoiding any kind of problem.

which clutch are you guys talking about? the twin disc carbon carbon or the max series?

i have a max series full face with the cyn-r-g flywheel and ive had no problems at all. i've had it in the car for about 4-5 months now.

ive also driven an evo with their max series full face.. very nice clutch if you ask me.. I beat on this evo pretty good and the clutch handled it. Even after the infamous slip the clutch at 7k rpm launches

Well I'll put my .02 in for what it's worth. People always are going to have a prefrence and a passion about things that they are using in their car. They will usually have a TON of money tied up in it, so everything SHOULD work perfect. BUT being racers, we all know that things can and WILL go wrong. That is part of the game, and we all know it going into it. Now once something shitty has happened and once they get a sour taste in their mouth about a company and/or product it is hard to sway them back because of people around them, or just not wanting to deal with it.

I have run an RPS clutch/flywheel set up in my car since the motor was built. So far it has held up to 562 whp and 408 lb/ft torque. I plan on turning the boost up, and taking it from there. The clutch was broke in on the dyno, low boost for about 15 minutes driving on the dyno. In Phoenix with boost set at 8 lbs off the line, and 26" tall slicks I was pulling consistent 1.68-1.70 60' times. The two-step set at 7K.

I do not work for RPS, but Rob and JT did help me out with the set-up, yes I still paid for everything. I still talk to JT all the time, keep him updated with how everything is going.

I'm telling you, I have ran clutched in other cars from the other companies, but NEVER had anyone take time out to talk to me the way that JT did/has. I would seriously try to go back to an RPS set up to anyone who has changed.

Like I said my .02.

Jason
