My car is boosted for over 6 months now and I never had a problem like this before. Whenever I step on the gas...my car would simply just die. The other night I had to force driving it home...as im driving...the rpm would fly up and down and the check engine light would flash like crazy...bogging like a bitch. Has anybody ever had this problem before?

I thought it was a dizzy problem, borrowed a good working dizzy. Switched it and still the same problem. I think it has to do with the map sensor....what do you guys think? What are the symtoms of a bad map sensor when boosted?

Sometimes when my car is just sitting there...idling. The RPM would bounce rapidly up and down 1k-2k...only the rpm on the tach would bounce but the motor sounds like its still idling @ 800.

Any other ideas? A bad TPS sensor perhaps?

he said he tried a different distributor.... how bout swapping the map sensor with the same car. Computer?? are you chipped, cut the j12 and see how it is, don't go boosting, least not much with that cut though. Or swap computers, i don't know.

Im wondering what causes the rpm tach to bounce without my motor "bouncing" with it. The needle on the rpm tach would bounce 1k-2k sometimes....but the motor isnt really bouncing/reving with the tach. Simply....the tach bounces by itself.

yeah thats a problem with either a) your tach signal wire hookup, b) your ground to that gauge, c) your power source to that gauge, or d) your distributor. i dont understand why you dont just pull the code its giving you.

I am away and dont have access to my car at the time. Just wondering if anybody has run into this problem.

The ignitor sends the RPM signal to the ECU and to the gauge cluster.

If it's not the ignitor, it's the wiring.

Like I said before, I switched dizzys with a good one and it hasnt fixed the problem.

Does anybody know if a bad map or tps sensor would cause my car to die whenever I hit the gas?

MAP will, TPS, probably not, but it will not run well at all.

thanks thats exactly what tony1 told me. a map will but a tps...probably not. I've been driving my car for over 6 months now on this turbo setup and I have never had a problem. Untill now, well recently...the bolts came off from the manifold and was seperated from the turbo. I fixed it...put in some new bolts and made sure they would never come off again. But why would that cause a problem? I wasnt boosting crazy or anything like that. And my car starts everytime I turn it on....just that now....when I hit the gas it just dies like it's a dizzy problem.

I was going to say ignitor as well. I have had the same symtoms on my car twice and it was the ignitor both times. Swap another dizzy on there or have somebody else do it just to make sure.

I had this same problem a few days after my first swap. I didn't tighten down the ground on the thermostat housing all the way. Well the bolt backed out and was making poor contact. I tightened it down and had no problems after that.

I would say check your grounds.

thanks for all the comments. this situation is weird as hell, ill try my best to fix it. i couldve sworn it was going to be my dizzy but i dont know. we'll see. if anybody has ran into this problem please post up. it'll be a great help to me...thanks =D

sorry guys when i say flashing....i meant ON AND OFF and not constantly flashing. and today i just found out the problem. the problem waaassss....the ******* thermostat ground was KIND OF loose....not hand loose but wrench loose. so i tighten the ground and added another ground to it just incase that was the problem. thanks for all of your help.
