Default Ring gap suggestions?

I've been running Arias 9 to 1 pistons w/ stock bore on my '01 ITR. Recently I began having some major smoke issues. A Honda tech diagnosed the car over the weekend and thinks it the rings. A relatively shady friend of mine gapped the rings and honed the cyclinder walls with a stone hone. Apparently thats a no no with our motors.
So I apparently fried my rings on atleast 2 cyclinders, well two appear worse then the other two. So a new set of Arias Rings(stock bore) are going into my motor(B18C5) after it's machine honed to factory specs.(assuming the machine shop can hone it back to factory specs)
If so, whats the recomended gap I should run on the rings? I'm tuned Via Hondata to run 16psi if that comes into play.
Thanks for any information.
Mark

I elected to use a rather large gap of 18 thousandths on both compression rings for my motor (based on earl's recommendation... if you give earl a call, he's always happy to help a fellow h-t'er out... thanks earl!)

I smoke a bit during startup, but once she's warm no issues. Well, I've got some scratches in my cylinder walls, but that's an unrelated issue.
