Default Resistor-Pack Vs. Radioshack

I bought some 10 Ohm 10 Watt resistors from the shack, but would it be better to use a resistor pack from an older Honda? Are there any issues with overheating the seperate resistors, since there are the fins on the resistor pack housing? Also, how does that actually hook up?

i was also wondering this, where exactly do u install the resistors,..this way seems much more cleaner then a box and wires going everywhere.

The oem resistor pack is a brick of resistors in a large heat sink, so yes it is better.

I would assume you would need to place the resistors inline with the ecu harness on the negative side of the injector.

Just wire a 10 watt 10 ohm resistor in series with the yellow/black wire from each injector. The ceramic portion of the resistor is not conductive and does not need to be sheilded but you need to sheild any bare wire.

Be sure to solder and shrink wrap everything. No bullet connectors here boys.

They get hot, but no hotter than anything else in the engine bay. Been running like this for a couple months now.

if you're feeling really ambitious you can always expoxy heat sinks on the ceramic parts of the resistors...

or epoxy them all together and put a heatsink from a computer's CPU on them.

Being that those resistor packs can be found for $30-$40....why bother with anythign else...what if you buy a bad resistor and it fails while your driving....you can easily fry your ecu or worst yet blow your motor if that injector stops working.

i was just asking..because the wiring jobs i see on the injector packs dont look to shabby (from what I* have seen).

i just dont want an electrical mess

Me too. Heres a pic of where I installed my resistor box. Found a stock bolt on location and it clears the hood prop in the highest position. Also the wiring harness is right there too! Win, Win, situation.

i thought 0bd1 and 2 use low independent injector's swo you don't need the resistor box please inlighten me?

You have it backwards. Obd 0 hondas used low impedence injectors.

It would be difficult to fry your ECU. The resistors are very durable and when they do blow, you know it. They explode! It is really cool. They do handle way more than 10 Watts, how about 20-30 amps or more at 7.2 volts (144 watts+). They get real hot though. When they blow if they will short and you will not get power to the ECU because the fuse going to the risistors will blow.

I never heard of doing this whole resistor thing, but it is a very good idea.

is there a limit on to how long the wires should be? i will have mine pretty far away from the injectors and engine harness, like near the battery. still good, right?
