Default redlining w/turbo setup

my buddy has the odd thought that he doesn't need to and should not redline his boosted 06 type-s. He thinks its only necessary if your in 6th gear I don't know the specifics or things about turbos so I'm here to ask. He gave some reason about low compression and having more power at lower rpm's and yada yada...... I know often you make your highest power lower than redline, but never heard of not redlining like this before, is it true?

after losing to our friends stock s2k i urged him to reconsider his thinking. I mean sounds like a lot of wasted $$$ if you cant take a stock '03 s2k.

im sure the great minds of these forums can settle the confusion.

Strange thought process on your buddy's behalf.

Turbo motors do not neccesarrily make peak power at redline, however in most cases are pretty close to. It's one thing to avoid winiding out 5th and/or 6th gear to avoid the load factor, but I can't fathom why he's sketched to redline the motor.

Sadly even i've pushed his car when i took it for a ride once, he has no idea what he's missing. Im not sure exactly what his power numbers are but he was tuned at Church's Automotive (CA) and is running a greddy kit. To be completely honest i think he just likes the satisfaction of having a fast car, but seems unwilling to run it to its full potential. Im not dumb and talking about street racing, everyone open's up on the highway every now and then.

being the owner of a '00 modded d-series i let him know of how i envy his much higher redline and how i think daily of the day i do my gsr-swap. i let him know i will definitely let my baby scream past redline

are there any proven technical issues about redlining on a turbo setup?
or is my friend just being a wuss.......

It's a VTEC Honda motor (or iVTEC, whatever) it has to rev to make power.

Does he have a dyno sheet and what rpm's does he shift at when racing?

Yeah he's got his dyno sheets. Dont know them off the top of my head though.

He told me about 6.5k just enough to flirt with his 8k redline. He pretty much stays below 7.

His motor is built to rev, whether its boosted or not.

Uhm... rev the boosted engine! I actually try NOT too push the engine too hard in 5th gear simply because it puts more load on the engine.

haha. my only input is. i cant imagine how slow my car would be if i shifted it at 7k. i realize my turbo is alot larger than his if hes using a greddy kit. however. you should rev your car to wherever it stops making power efficiently. and i highly doubt a turboed k-series stops making power at 7k. or even 8k. well that and if i got beat by a s2k that runs 14.0's id be a little angry also...lol

I've been trying to tell him for so long, 2 years actually. Can you imagine that?!? 2 years and never hearing your baby scream the way she should. I may show him this to get him to change his mind. I've been trying for this long, maybe this will do the trick.

lol, if your buddy thinks he should only redline in 6th gear...then he has a problem lol..

in the type-s you''d probably be doing 250km/hour if u hit redline in 6th lol
