Default Rant about Rev Hard turbo kits!!!

I finished a Rev Hard turbo kit install this past weekend for Ryan, "degradated". I hadn't installed a Rev Hard kit in about a year. After this last install I was very disappointed at the price/value of these kits. For a kit that costs $500.00 more than the DRAG kit, you would expect more for your money.

As many of you may already know, the two kits are identical. The major differences are:

Rev Hard
Painted Steel Piping
Rev Hard Turbo Manifold
MSD Fuel Pump
Vortech BOV
Oversized Front Mount Intercooler

DRAG
Chrome Steel Piping
DRAG Turbo Manifold
Airtex Fuel Pump
HKS SS BOV
Large Front Mount Intercooler

I'm not at all bashing Rev Hard. I'm just trying to figure out exactly what more you get when paying the extra $500.00. Both kits use the exact same turbo and all the parts listed above cost about the same. We've dynoed several Rev Hard and DRAG kits over the years and we haven't noticed any performance advantages from either kit. The quality of the Rev Hard kit also isn't that great. I'm stumped.

I didn't voice my concerns with Ryan because he got a great deal on the kit and he's happy with the end product.

We sell just about every turbo kit available on the market including DRAG, Rev Hard, F-MAX, Greddy, etc. and our company will always stand by the products we sell. I guess having been bed-riddened by the flu for the past two days made me start thinking about this. I just hate to see our customers pay more than they should for the same result.

I got a good deal on the revhard too and Im sure ill be happy with the end product but whenever I give people advise on what kit to by I tell them to get the Drag3 kit just because its so much of a better deal. Although when I bought my kit the Revhard was doing a group buy and the Drag was not..

your rev-hard sucks, my drag is better...

yeah, I saw chris's kit, I am only jealous of the intercooler, I am so glad that I don't have to mess around intake piping....
but then I still don't have an FMU.. ..

Ben do you have a used FNU laying around...?

Maybe it's more expensive because of marketing, you know the "used by Mr. pro drag racer" type of deal. Does drag have that technique of marketing?

I've heard that Drad has problems with exhaust manifold cracking, does rev hard have this same problem. Ben, will you have another Groupbuy for Drag III in the upcoming months?

Oh I forgot to mention the lack of an intake and filter.

As for the marketing reason, no marketing expense could justify the $500.00 per kit mark up.

Glad I got the drag. Install was real easy. Only bad thing about the kit i've heard was the oil return line which i replaced for 60 bucks. I'm not worried about the manifold because I know ben stands by his products.

buy it from ben, he take care of the Myth of the cracked manifold that drag kit has been accused of...

I remembered his post before, out of shitloads of Drag kit that was sold, he only receives less than 4 or 5 back....for the cracked manifold
hell of a number IMO..

I don't expect one for a while. If you want to order one soon, email me with what you need and I'll put together a package deal for you.

I like both kits, they use nearly Identical components, and put down roughly the same power. I do agree that they should retail for the same price.

What do you guys think of the greddy kit? It's a decent amount cheaper, could the money saved be used to make it as fast as a Drag III? Maybe like a 25-35 dry nitrous kit?

With the intercooler and BOV upgrade, the Greddy kit costs the about the same as the DRAG kit.

Well...I'm happy with the finished product. I'm glad I didn't pay $500 more for it than the Drag III, otherwise I wouldn't have gone with this kit.

My big beef with Revhard is their poor Customer Service. I had a Ball bearing turbo on order with them for 6 weeks, but someone at Revhard dropped the ball and never sent the order to Turbonetics to have it built until about 4 weeks into the order, so I ended up just going with the thrust bearing turbo and waiting a bunch of extra time for nothing. And speaking to the big shot at Revhard left me with a sour taste in my mouth. He was very unprofessional in the way he spoke to a customer, and acted oblivious to their screw-up.

I had to cut some of the piping on this kit for it to fit right, particularly the intake piping near the BOV by about 2.5 inches. Other than that, just having the super huge intercooler and good sounding blow-off valve makes me satisfied and not regretful. Contrary to what I've heard from others, the Vortech BOV actually sounds really cool and loud. I'll put up some sound clips here possibly this weekend.

What's done is done. If I could go back, I still probably would have chosen Revhard, I just wish they would get their **** together. I'll have to admit that Drag III is probably the best kit out their right now value-wise, although I'm not so sure Revhard is a complete $500 more....I guess it depends where you buy it from. Comparing groupbuy prices, Revhard was $21 more, but came with less free stuff that Ben is throwing in, so overall it probably equates to a couple hundred dollars difference.

So if someone asked me what kit to buy, I would probably recommend Drag for the fact that it is probably easier to install with less hassles. But I consider these hassles a learning experience...
