Radiator Fan is not on?
hi, guys,
i was changing oil, flushing my radiator today, i also took out the turbo, the whole exhaust manifold, i was fixing another issue, but everything was good and went fine !
but i just realized when i start my car, there is a sound coming out of the engine bay... i can't describe what sound it is, i checked everything, everything is in good shape, nothing is wrong
no engine check light is on...
then i realized that my radiator fan is not on....
so i thought, well maybe my car is not hot enough, so i drove my car for around 3 mins, boosting around...
then i pop up my hood, it's still not on......
and it's around 5 degrees C out there now...
any idea what's going on?? the motor of the fan is dead??
how do i check which part is wrong?? thanks very much guys

Depending on how efficient your system is, 3 minutes may not be enough.
Did you notice if your temp gauge went beyond where it usually goes?
If your radiator fan never comes on, your car would eventually hit the red.
You can test the radiator fan by just connecting the fan to a 12V battery.
If that works, I would check the temp sensor on the thermostat. To test
the relay of the temp sensor, just ground the positive pin of the temp sensor.
That should make the fan turn on if the relay was working.
But first and foremost, just run the car until you KNOW that the car is in the
hot zone.

so.. i should keep running the car until the temp gauge goes too high?? or red??
if it doesn't, that means the fan is running.. ??
anyways, thanks for the good info

NO! Don't wait for it to redline.. if it's past halfway, I'm sure it should have kicked on.
Anyway, OEM temp sensor (Aux. fan switch) is $35. Honda thermostat is $16.
Generic thermostat is $4. If your relay is bad, dunno. Shouldn't be more than
$5.

i have been driving for around 45 mins?? no hard driving, just normal driving, my temp gauge is still at normal position...
and my fan is still not on.. ****.. what's the problem???
there is no probleM?? hahaa... who knows?? shooot !!
help guys

When you're moving... you are pushing alot of air through the radiator.
So usually, the fan doesn't come on while you're moving since you're essentially
running a big fan through it.
Drive around a bit, then park/idle it. It should eventually start to heat up.
May take upwards of like 5-10 minutes after you park.. depending on how
efficient your system is.

sit in your drive way with the ac on just chillin and jamming to some music for about 5-10 min if you temp moves past half way on the gauge and keeps rising. something is not working. and leave you hood closed, and stop driving around to test it.

I hard wired mine to a switch, chucked the relay, may still have it for free if you need it, I run my fan at all lights, drive thrus and city driving, keeps temps down, my copilot is in charge of reminding me. your fan is not needed with ambient air at 5c, as long as you are moving at a reasonable speed the motor will stay cool.
hey, thanks
do you still have your switch?? is it easy to hook it up??
coz i live in canada, do u think get that switch cheaper than u ship it to me??
also, would there be any disadvantages if the motor is TOO cool??

rtype11, I just wired mine to a switch. I tested it, drove around for 15 minutes boosting pretty good and running the fan when I slowed to under 40mph. When I pulled in the driveway at home and let it idle, the temp never went above half way. I am pleased with this because before I am sure it would have went over and maybe caused me to spray coolant out of the overflow.
if it's really 5degrees C out there then your fan won't turn on unless you sit there idling with the hood CLOSED for a while. Driving around in cold weather your fan will almost never turn on.
