questions about turbos?
I'm a n00b when it comes to turbos. Basically whats essentially the difference between a t3, 16G, 18G, T28, and a t3/t4.
I want to piece a turbo kit together(well of course I'm getting help from a few friends), but the main part of the kit I have no idea what would be good for my application. I have a b18c1 if you guys want to know. I'm not planning on boosting crazy amounts(14 psi) in the near future(isn't that what they all say), so a decent sized turbo that can get my ek hatch into the 13's would be great. I was thinking about a t25 but from what I've been reading it seems like you loose your boost after 4.5K which is not something I want. Also the other issue is I want the best bang for the buck (college student). I basically can get a t28 and a side mount intercooler off a sr20det for relatively cheap. So enlighten me fellas

Re: questions about turbos? (prophet)
Well I have the td04 15g on my car. Only real advantage to this turbo is the spool up time. Top end seems to suffer greaty. I want to go t3/t4 ball bearing turbo but Im planing on boosting 15psi daily. Like you said "you say now" that you wont want to up the boost alot. I can tell you right now you will. Get yourself a t3/t4. Im preety sure you will be happy with it. Who knows I'm just a newbie

Re: questions about turbos? (gsrt)
i know many of u are gonna say t3/t4 and thats because most of the turbo kits out there use it. But the main point is...is it neccessary? It can handle a great amount of boost...but can't the t28, 16g, 18g handle around 14-15 psi anyways? What I'm trying to say is why do i need a bigger/more expensive turbo when my application is no more than 7psi daily driven. I am sure i will get boost happy but by that time I'll be done school and if I want more boost I'll have to rebuild anyways...so it wouldn't matter.

Well any turbo can really handle 15psi but for instance. A t3/t4 turbo at 15psi vs a 15g at 15psi are both pushing diff air volume. Honestly if money is an issue I say go for the 16g turbo. Can handle around 300hp maybe a little more an spool up time shouldnt be bad at all http://www.turbochargers.com check them out.Good luck
