Default Questions about the GT35R...Will this work for me?

I have been thinking about giving up on the all motor thing for a while and after talking to my buddy, think its time for turbo

Ill be rebuilding my 2L itr block with some 9:1's and am overwhelmed by the selection of turbos out there...
From what Ive read here in the FI forums, an sc50 or sc61 seems to be what im looking for. (good power, minimal lag for daily driving)
My friends friend has a brand new GT35R for sale with i think a .84 A/R. I do not know all the turbo lingo and terms and am going off what memory is providing.
GT35R ball bearing, .84 (or is it .82) something for $550, said its not water cooled and theres no shroud porting....
Is this an ok choice for my engine? I will be using an itr tranny.
Id like to eventually see 500whp and 10 second 1/4 mile times. I dont think lag will be too bad with 2 liters and an itr tranny? or will it?
Are there any questions i should ask this guy? I figure its a pretty good price and seems like itll satisfy my HP goals so if you guys can help me decide, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for helping a turbo newbie and i apologize for my ignorance in turbocharger sizing

Well i am no way a turbo expert but if you were thinking of using the sc61 then i would definitely pick up that 35r since it is basically the same turbo but with a ball bearing center section.I would love to be able to buy a 35r for 550 lol

Its got that V band clamp thing on the exhaust too. I take it thats just for ease of maintenance, removal, etc?
What all should I look for on this thing to better ID it?
Im used to no power until 5500 rpms anyway, but when do you guys think boost will build? Is it too big for daily driving? Thanks for any and all responses

How much power do you want to make?
As far as the turbo is concerned, I don't think it's a ball bearing turbo, since it's not water cooled. Maybe it's a Garrett GT35.

Id like to see around 500whp. I figure that should be enough to hit 10's and also to beat my friends near stock supra that he cant shut up about...

I think it would be cool as **** to beat bikes on the interstate, or at least hang with them.Ya know the slower ones, 600's and some 750's, not busa's or anything like that.
If this is the turbo i think it is, it may be just the ticket. He did say it was ball bearing but I didnt see any coolant fittings, just the one for oil.
Hmmmm.....

if its NON water cooled chances are its a 35E which is the standard journal bearing turbo.

its kinda iffy on that set up even if it is a 2.0 liter. with an 82AR on the exhaust side it is meant for more of tope end power, with a larger displacement motor

if you actually look at what a 35R is emant for i believe it is from a 2.5 liter to a 4.0 liter

i have a B16 which is still 81mm and have a true 35R dual BB turbo and a, using the .63AR housing and its great, i finally love my car again. i went thru 5 turbos last year looking for the right one

500whp out of the GT35E is quite possible, though the main difference is not really the exhaust housing but the wheel, which is about 2mm smaller in the inducer than the 76 trim SC61. (The GT35R, GT35E, and SC61 use the same 61mm inducer compressor wheel).

It's more than likely a Journal Bearing turbo which is fine. It should be sufficient for the power goals you may want, but not necessarily in the Powerband that you may want it in. It's rather "peaky"

100% on the money!

i wanted a slightly more usable powerband even tho my car is a track car it still sees some street time, and i wanted a little sooner spool so i went with a real 35R, not an E, i love it-

Ok, thanks guys alot. This sounds like it is not the one for me then.
Ill keep an eye out for something closer to the .63 a/r that mrbsponge was describing although maybe not an actual R. I see they are like twice the price

I just remember hearing about how badass the gt35 was and thought it was my lucky day, lol

I appreciate your descriptiveness on this matter for someone thats never been boosted before
