Question on rebuilds....
For those who've rebuilt motors, preferable more than once, is it the norm to reuse the stock pistons when rebuilding a motor (assuming it's in good shape of course). I was quoted on rebuilding the B17, but the guy mentioned usuing the same rods and pistons if they're in good shape, I just thought that was a little odd but I wanted to make sure.
Reuse original pistons, rods:
Sure as long as they are in good shape, it is done all the time for simple rebuilds. As long as the pistons can hold the proper wall clearences after your honing. I always replace the rod bolts with new ones also.
Most here rebuild engines because it failed so they replace OEM parts with stronger parts. Or they are building an engine to handle much more than the OEM power levels.
But then again your FI so why not upgrade if you have the extra cash to throw at it? I would if it was my engine.

Oh...so your rebuilding for NA. The original pistons and rods will be fine, at least replace the rod bolts with ARP bolts.
The SOHC sounds like a good project..tell me more, tell me more

Yeah like slpr said, it really depends on the condition of the rods and pistons. The rods are usually still good on a basic rebuild on a basic motor, not raced out. Pistons are a little more picky. If the cylinder walls have to be honed out too much then pistons might have to be replaced as well as the rings for the best seal possible.
In a case like you said, that everything is in good condition, I would change out the rings at least and of course bearings.

quick questions....i have a 95 prelude vtec with the solid deck...
i am going to do pistons and rods and valves. do i need to resleeve the cylinders?
i'm planning on 10-12psi daily and about 14-15psi at the tracks

VTC, of course you can re-use the rods and pistons as long as they are in good condition. You must, however, replace the rings and if the bearings are aged, those as well. Hell , since you are not upgrading the internals, why don't you look into getting them shot-peened ? I know a place where it can be done for like $40 the rods and prolly the same for the pistons.
The bearings, rings etc.. were all going to be replaced, the only question I wasn't sure about was the reuse of the actual piston/rods.. I mean c'mon guys, reuse 160k mile old bearings? not even me lol
