Default Question about octane

I am runnin 9psi on F-Max kit in 6th gen Accord and i have always run Mobil gas in my car, generally between 89 and 93. Once i got the turbo i was always runnin 93 octane. But i recently switched over to 94 octane Sunoco. Does that one extra octane really make any difference? BTW 94 is the highest you can get in CT.

the highest we can get in my town is 91, and thats what i run ALL of the time. to be honest, i probally wouldnt be able to notice a difference between 92 and 93 unless my car was having some sort of detonation problem. my biggest thing is putting in quality gasoline. places like maverick, safeway, etc seem to sell lesser quality gas IMO. i try to run chevron, mobil or texaco. only time i worry about uping the octane is when i run at the track. just my 2 cents.

sunco is good gas, but 1 oct. isn't going to make a difference on a prefab turbo kit designed for 91 oct..

Or what about using an octane booster, like what you can buy at the parts store? Any good?

Sunoco 94 runs by far better than any other street fuel i've found in the northeast. I knock much less on it. Typically, if I run any of the local 93 octane brands I will get some moderate knock. A few hours after filling up with fresh sunoco 94 the knock has been reduced to levels that I don't even worry about. That is with no other changes to the car or weather. You will find that most people that have high performance engines fill up on the sunoco fuels. What that means is that they are always being constantly rotated. The high octane brands at a local uni-mart however don't get rotated as quickly, because mom in her minivan doesen't spend the money, nor does she need to.

xylene = best
autoparts "octane booster" with claims of an 8point raise in octane = 91.8 if you started at 91oct..

if your not detonating on 93 then 94 is not gonna do anything for you.

If you aren't at the detonation threshold then you aren't running enough boost and not having enough fun. 94 octane sunoco raises the threshold in my car 2 psi or so. IE: from 18 psi to at least 20 psi but I was running 21 psi today and have run as much as 24 psi on teh days that it will handle it.
