hey guys, just picked up a cheapie adjustable timing light and want to make sure i do this right.

1) hook up +, - and hook up other to spark plug wire #1
2) jump service connector
3) start car
4) adjust gun to 14 (if i want to adjust to 14)
5) aim at pulley area.. and white mark should be at pointer?

Right. It just takes the guesswork out of getting the marks right. Set the timing light to the advance you want, then get the timing mark to the "TDC" "T" or "0" on the pointer.

hmm.. i dont have any writing marks on the pointer... its just a pointer and white and red marks on the belt. im guessing "tdc" is the fat white mark all by itself.

i set it to 12deg's. and still hear a little pinging/detonation (i think) when i transition into boost. im not sure if its just my oil guage thats loud. i wish i new exactly what it sounded like. my plugs look clean, (brownish) but the outer rim of the plugs (near the threading is sooty black) the ceramic portion looks clean and white. i also added some xylene to boost the octane rating. (1 gallon xylene with 5 gals of 91 oct. = 94.83oct.)
